SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, MEETINGS, EVENTS:

OK Parkland, here are the results of our Student VOTES!

We had 302 votes, representing a a 64% voter turnout.
Green Party - Elizabeth May won the vote by a large margin - 54% of all votes
Liberal Party - Tim Kane had 22% of the vote
Conservative Party - Robert Boyd had 14% of the vote

NDP  - Alicia Cormier had 8% of the vote
Libertarian Party - Megan Porter had 2% of the vote
Thanks for participating in the Student Votes Campaign Parkland!


TODAY: TUESDAY OCTOBER 20 IS PHOTO RETAKE DAY! ANYONE WHO MISSED PHOTO DAY, please get your photo taken in theatre foyer. Also, anyone wanting retakes, or who did get their photo done for an SD63 BUS CARD MUST DO SO TODAY!


Anyone taking SD B 63 SCHOOL BUS WILL BE EXPECTED TO SHOW BUS CARD STARTING THIS WEEK!

Hello Parkland!
On Monday, Oct 26th, at 11am, we hope that all of Parkland will unite and
DROP EVERYTHING AND READ for 20mins!  This is a yearly event for all of us
to show our support for reading and literacy!  Make sure to get a book from the Library,
or bring your favourite book from home.  Readers of the World UNITE!


Students are encouraged to check the Honour Roll board outside the office.   For Honour Roll or the Principal's Honour Roll achievement, please go to the office at break or lunch to pick up your Honour Roll certificate.


If you are interested in working on a video project that documents local marine busineses,
please see Ms. Chicanot or leave your name at the office front desk.  We are looking for approximately 5 students
who are interested in journalism and filming. This project could turn into an opportunity to get credits for an
independent directed studies course.  Once names are collected we will have a meeting to describe the project.

Sr. Boys Soccer: Reminder to all Sr. Boys Soccer players to meet at 2:20 in front of the front office on TUESDAY to leave for the game against Spectrum.


SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL CITY PLAYOFFS taking place today at Parkland.

UVIC VIKES SOCCER hosting INTERNATIONAL STUDENT NIGHT: Saturday October 24 @ Centennial Stadium. Women's game @ 5 p.m., Men's game @ 7:15 p.m. First 20 international students from each school at the gate will get FREE ENTRY! Every international student  after first twenty will get in to both games for half price, or $3.50. Register Parkland International students group! To register go to: CATCH THE SOCCER VIKES UNDER THE LIGHTS AT CENTENNIAL STADIUM, for Saturday October 24 games.

At the 2nd Annual Regatta this weekend at Elk Lake, 3 seemed to be the magic number
for Parkland Rowing Crews. Parkland earned a 3rd place finish in three quad races
for Junior Men and Women's races, and all crews showed well in the heats leading
to the finals. A special congratulations to junior rower Benjamin who competed in
the senior men's single race and earned a 3rd place finish in his heat!
Well done Panthers - only 3 weeks to the City Championships!

POST SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS B.C. (PSIBC) MINIFAIR is being hosted by Claremont on Thursday October 29 from 7 to 8 p.m. @ Claremont Learning Commons. Ten post-secondary institutions from across B.C. will be participating, including: QUEST, SFU, CAMOSUN, UVIC, VIU and others. A great event to attend with your parents and friends!

Are you thinking of Becoming an Engineer?
Interested in Technology?  love an extra four credits?

Dual-credit course offered free at Camosun provides current high school students with an introduction
to careers and basic skills in Computer Science, Electronic and Computer Engineering Technology,
Civil Engineering Technology, and Mechanical Engineering Technology. Students  complete a
hands-on project in each of  4 areas as they explore potential career and post-secondary options
within the 4 technology areas.This year, they are offering an ALL FEMALE COURSE starts in February 2016.
Regular mixed course offered as well.See Ms. Mac.

Latitude Global Volunteering (formerly known as Gap Activity Projects) is an international
youth development charity.  It;'s mission is to educate and develop young people worldwide by
providing inclusive opportunities for them to make a positive difference to the lives of others
through a distinctive, challenging, structured and supported international volunteering experience
in a culture and community different from their own.
Lattitude offers young adults a unique opportunity to grow and learn while volunteering
internationally.  Placements last 3-11 months. See CAREER CENTRE WINDOW for information, and
see Ms. Mac if interested.

Soldier for a Day program: SATURDAY NOVEMBER 7,  2015. Introduces the role of the Canadian Armed Forces - Army Reserve in Canada and internationally. Worth 5 hours work experience. Students grades 10 to 12 should see Ms McNamee for more info.

MATH HELP CENTRE:  open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays - after school until 4 p.m. for extra math help. Meet in room 105 for help with any math course you are taking this semester.

MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: now open at lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz. thank you to Mrs. Beaucamp for making this happen!
