Big congratulations to Arianne Stevenson and Cooper Langard for their excellent representation of Parkland at the Cross Country Provincial Championships in Kelowna this past weekend. Arianne was 55th out of 240 runners, the 7th Islander to finish! Cooper was 40th out of 2000 runners. A big thank you to their families for making the trip and supporting our Panther runners.

METAL RECYCLING BINS HAVE ARRIVED: Please place metals for recycling IN THE BIN, back teacher parking lot near the roadway. Money raised will go to support sports teams and the hockey program. Thanks in advance for your support and junk metal! Bin will be on site for TWO WEEKS ONLY -  to Thursday NOVEMBER 10, 2016.

MINDFULNESS GROUP is meeting on Monday's and Friday's at lunch in the upper conference room. Come and take a break from your busy day while learning techniques to calm your mind and body. All students and staff are welcome!


ATTENTION ALL 2017 GRADS:

Are you a grade 10, 11, or 12 student thinking about attending UBC?  A UBC advisor will be available at Parkland at lunchtime on Wednesday, November 13 to tell you about their admission requirements, deadlines, and programs.  This meeting will be a great opportunity to learn about the importance of grade 11 marks when applying to UBC.  Meeting will be in the textiles room, room number 404 at lunchtime on Wednesday, November 16th.

Congratulations to the SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL TEAM who beat SMU last night in the Quarter finals. They havenow qualified for Islands, which will take place in Courtney on November 18 / 19. The team plays again on Wednesday November 9 against Lambrick at PCS for the bronze. Good luck boys, and congrats on making it to the Islands.

YOUR COMPLETED PAPERWORK IN TO MS. MCNAMEE BEFORE NOVEMBER 9 IN ORDER TO GAIN A FINAL MARK FOR YOUR UPCOMING REPORT CARD.
Remember: if you are a grade 12 student, a minimum of 30 hours work experience is required in
order to qualify for Grad Transitions - get it done now and leap ahead!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP:
1. NOVEMBER 12 FROM 10 A.M. TO 2 P.M. - SHOAL CENTER CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR - volunteers needed to help serve coffee and cookies, and promote YEP PROGRAMS to visitors.

2. The Observatory is hosting a volunteer information and appreciation evening on Friday, November 18th at 7:00 pm with free pizza, refreshments, and the opportunity to meet and socialize with other volunteers, board members, and people generally interested in STEM careers and research.
This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in science, and more particularly astronomy or astrophysics.

3. SAINT PAUL'S CHURCH ANNUAL ADVENT FESTIVAL: November 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. - Volunteers needed to prep and serve international foods; set up and clean up; learn to use commercial dishwasher.

ABORIGINAL YOUTH CONFERENCE HOSTED BY VNFC: November 25 and 26 - aborignal speakers, prizes, games. See Ms. McNamee for further information.

FIRST AID TRAINING AND ALERT EMERGENCY FIRST AID - watch CAREER CENTRE NOTICE BOARDS FOR INFORMATION. Takes place November 14, from 8:45 to 4 p.m., Cost is $50.00 . See Ms McNamee to register.
