THURSDAY MAY 11, 2017:

Please note: ANNOUNCEMENTS WILL BE READ TODAY AT THE BEGINNING OF C BLOCK DUE TO EXAM today.

ALL GRADS: Tickets for the graduation ceremony at UVic are now available.  Please call UVic to reserve your tickets.

Starting today, every day after school math help will be available in room 201 (right across from the fishbowl lab).  If you missed math class due to illness or need some tutorial help you are welcome to attend.  Don't forget--every day after school there is math help available!

Next week, May 15th - 19th, Parkland will be holding a Spring Food Drive. Bring your non-perishable food items to you block C classes all next week. The grade with the most donations will be deemed the winner! As a bonus, if you bring donations to the foyer at lunch on Tuesday and Thursday you will be entered into a competition to Pie a Teacher in the Face at Friday's Spirit Assembly. So if you've always wanted to see what Mr. Brouwer, Ms. Dildy and others would look like with a face full of pie, now is your chance! So don't forget to bring in your non-perishable items all next week during block C or at lunch!

Congratulations Parkland!  You voted for Adam Olsen and the Green Party to represent Saanich North & Gulf Islands!  The breakdown of Parkland's votes was 42% for Adam Olsen and the Greens, 33% for Gary Holman and the NDP, and 15% for Stephen Roberts and the Liberals. Jordan Templeton had 6% of our vote as an independent.  Overall, we had a turnout of 48%  Good job Parkland!

REPORT CARD: please pick up at front office - @ break, lunch, or after school. Do not leave class to pick up overdue materials.


SATURDAY MAY 13 - SIDFEST @ MARY WINSPEAR, 7:30 P.M.TICKETS $10 - all proceeds to Hope House.  Sponsored by Parkland Secondary, Sidney RCMP, Mary Winspear Centre, and Sidney Community Music School.


FRIDAY MAY 19 - SIDNEY CLASSICAL ORCHESTRA - @ St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 7:30 p.m., Tickets $25, and $13 for students.

Good news for our fine arts students: the deadline for the $750 Diane Cross Award for the Arts has been postponed to June 1st.  Email or meet with Mr. Choo for details.


Also a reminder for UVic students that Angela Colibaba will be here Monday MAY 15 at lunch time in Mr. Roome's room to guide you through registration and timetabling of classes.  This is an essential one hour presentation squeezed into our 45 minute lunch break so be on time; it'll start right away.  There'll be opportunity for students to continue meeting with Angela after the lunch session.


Parkland grads preparing for UVic have two fantastic opportunities to learn about UVic.
One.....Go online to register for a day at UVic this Saturday to attend an amazing welcoming event planned just for you.
Two...UVic will have a advisor at Parkland on Monday May 15th at lunch time in Mr. Roome's room (that's room 103) to help you specifically with registering for classes and creating timetables.  The recruiter will stay into block C for students that require help.


1. North Saanich Volunteer Firefighters' community service  bursary of up to $1500 due THURSDAY May 11.
2.MONDAY  May 15 deadline for: Diane Cross Award for the Arts; Jack Fleming Memorial for Music; Joy Paquin Memorial for Future Teacher; Marilyn Pinder Legacy scholarship; Orchid Bursary, See notice boards and emails for details!
3. A new scholarship is available to graduating students that are an active member of a faith group.  Details of the $1000 Reid Kyfiuk Memorial Scholarship are available by emailing Mr. Choo.  The deadline is May 15th.
4. Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea $1000 "Service above Self" scholarship due May 15.  Please note: even if you have applied for this scholarship in the Parkland Scholarship package, you will have to re-apply because the process has just been changed.

MATH HELP CENTRE:
Monday and Wednesday after school: 3 to 4 p.m., Rm 201; and Thursday morning before school - 7:15 to 8:15 in Rm 112.

ENGLISH HELP CENTRE:   Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at lunch in the Learning Centre (room 204), staffed by a retired English teacher. Please see Ms. Chicanot if you have any questions about this.

SIDES HELP CENTRE: has started on Tuesday and Thursdays after school in the career centre. Come and get help with any SIDES course. See Ms. Anderson in the counselling office if you have questions.
CULTURAL ROOM TUTORING IS NOW AVAILABLE: Every day after school from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., in the CULTURAL ROOM. Please see Ms. Mack for assistance with assignments, studying for tests, or other tutoring needs.
