Thank you to the Parkland community for your support for the TERRY FOX RUN, TOUR DE ROCK,for  HOSTING JAPANESE STUDENTS, SPIRIT ASSEMBLY - last week was very busy!

Reminder: There is badminton club today after school! 3:15 - 4:15 p.m. All interested students welcome!

ALL GRADS: Over forty American college and university representatives will be available today from 3:30 to 5:30 at St. Michaels University School to provide information about the programs and opportunities that they can offer you.
 
ALL GRADS: UVic advisors will be presenting today in room 103, that's Mr. Roome's math classroom,  at lunchtime today.  All students are welcome to attend and learn more about admission, programs and scholarships.

ALL GRADS: YOU CAN NOW SIGN UP ON-LINE WITH LIFETOUCH for your GRAD PHOTOS - which take place MONDAY October 23 to FRIDAY October 27 - book early as the schedule fills up quickly! Instruction sheets available at front office.

ALL STUDENTS: SCHOOL PHOTO RETAKE DAY IS THURSDAY OCTOBER 26. Stay tuned for instruction that day as to where & when!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS who want to go on the Whistler Ski Trip now have until Friday October 13 to get their forms and payment in to Ms. McRae. There is still some space!

Congrats to Cooper Langard who won the Senior Boys Cross Country Race at Henderson last week! The cross country team is looking for more runners to join Cooper. Please see Ms. Dibblee if you are interested.


INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN HEALTHCARE OR MEDICINE? Come to Open House at UVIC on Tuesday October 10th from 4:30 to 5:3 0 p.m. Pizza and refreshments will be served. For more information, see Ms. Rioux in the Counselling foyer.

ALL STUDENT DRIVERS: If you have not yet registered your vehicle with the forms available from the front office, and placed your Parkland decal on the back of your rearview mirror, please do so ASAP to keep your parking privileges.

GRAD PARENTS: plan for 2018! Parents needed to get things started, plus volunteers through the year. To be part of this committee, or to gain more info on what parents do to help Grads, next meeting is Oct 17 at 7:00 in Learning Commons.

    
Are you an artist, wordsmith or filmmaker? Essays, poems, posters welcome. Create ART OR LITERATURE about Remembrance Day, what it means to you and Canada. Deadline: Nov 15, 2017; entry forms available front office.

STUDENT GROUP BAND LOOKING FOR MEMBERS: bass, piano player, and singer needed. Music genres: funk, blues, soul, and rock. Contact international student: Hannes Hacke. See notice board for further details.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND GRAD INFORMATION:

GRADE 12 'S: LORAN scholarship - worth over $100,000 - now accepting applications.  To have application sponsored by Parkland, deadline is October 18th.  If applying on your own, deadline:  October 25th.  Email Mr. Choo for details.


GRADE 12 'S: U of Toronto NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP  accepting applications. This scholarship fully covers tuition & expenses for four years of undergrad study at U of T. Deadline: Nov 3, 2017. Email Mr. Choo or Ms. Rioux for details.

GRADE TWELVE STUDENTS: to receive emails about scholarships, post secondary application and admission information, please EMAIL Mr. Choo WITH YOUR RETURN EMAIL to be added to his contact list.  Some major scholarships will be available very soon.

IMAGINING POSSIBILITIES CONFERENCE - FREE WORKSHOP & EXHIBIT FOR YOUNG WOMEN, ages 15 and up. ALL DAY, THURSDAY OCTOBER 26, from 9 to 2:20 p.m. See Ms. McNamee to sign up and attend. THIS EVENT IS AMAZING!

VOLUNTEERS WANTED:
(1) SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOWLING: @ Miracle Lanes in Sidney - serve as head coach of 5 pin bowling program, 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday.

(2) FACE PAINTING SUNDAY OCTOBER 22 AT HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN CARVING EVENT; from 11 to 2 p.m., at Beacon Park. Experience an asset but not required! Four face painters needed! See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(3) HOMEWORK CLUB: Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. @ Balmoral and Quadra for Inter-Cultural Association of Victoria. See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(4) If you enjoy working with children and have a talent for Face Painting, Sidney event Sunday October 22 from 11 to 2 at Sidney Band Shell, Pumpkin Carving event, needs you! See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(5) ARTS REACH YOUTH COUNCIL seeking youth volunteers for 4 hours per month at community events. WORKSHOP AND TEACHING experience, AS WELL AS thank you gifts for this volunteer position are extraordinary! See Ms. McNamee.

CAREER COURSES COMING UP:
FOOD SAFE LEVEL 1 -  OCTOBER 20 - 8:30 to 4:30; @ SHOAL CENTRE; cost is $50 ( on non-instructional day). This is a great one to attend. Course is filling up fast, so see Ms. McNamee ASAP!

ALERT FIRST AID NOVEMBER 4 - all day @ Shoal Centre; cost is $50.00. See Ms. McNamee to register, and get start times!

BASICS OF BANKING & FINANCE: OCTOBER 28, FROM 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. @ Shoal Centre. BUDGETING & BASIC BANKING.

(2) General yard clean-up @ $15 per hour, 3 hours work.

(3) WORK WITH SENIOR; Resthaven Drive - tidy and sort, recycling, odd jobs. Two hours a week, @ $15.00 per hour.

TUTORIALS IN LEARNING CENTRE: every day after school. Wednesday & Friday are good for completing longer tests & assignments.

LEARNING COMMONS SUPPORT: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday day after school until 3:40 p.m., Wednesday & Friday until 3:35 p.m.
 ELL TUTOR also available at these times.
