PARKLAND IS VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENT - DESIREE YOUNG - she brought home GOLD with her Wheelchair Basketball team representing Vancouver Island at the B.C. WINTER GAMES! Check out the current news as well - about Desiree's clothing line "WHEEL & AXLE", which celebrates diversity and sport!


ATTENTION ALL GRADS: there a number of events and activities coming up!
(1) this Friday March 2 is twin day - find your double and dress alike.
(2) Saturday March 10 - grads are having a bottle drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. We need volunteers to sort and to drive. Pick up a few posters at the office and help spread the word.
(3) Grad sleepover forms are due at the office by March 16th. Grad sleepover is planned for April 5.

ANY STUDENTS INTERESTED IN THE 26TH ISLANDS YOUTH PARLIAMENT - taking place this year March 9 to 11 @ Gulf Islands Secondary School - please see Ms. McNamee ASAP for application - DEADLINE March 2. Opportunity to learn PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE, DEBATE, WRITE LEGISLATION, DISCUSS IMPORTANT CURRENT ISSUES. Students interested in POLITICS, LAW, ACTIVISM, COMMUNITY SERVICE, LEADERSHIP - should attend!

All grade 9 to 11 students are reminded to turn in their course selection forms as soon as possible (last date for submission is March 9th). If you have lost your form, we have extras at the front office.

MONDAY MARCH 5 - GRAD CLASS OF 2018 FUNDRAISER - PARKLAND BURGER & BEER NIGHT - Monday March 5, 7 p.m., @ Boondocks, Sidney. $25 per ticket; $10 goes toward Parkland Dry Grad After Grad evening. Limited number of tickets on sale now at SCHOOL OFFICE.

IMPORTANT MEETING TUESDAY MARCH 6 for all students attending SKILLS CANADA COMPETITION on March 7 - @ lunch in the Career Centre. All participants must attend!


INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: TWO IMPORTANT NOTICES

(1) ROCKY MOUNTAIN FIELD TRIP APPLICATIONS are due Wednesday March 7 - only 10 spaces left! See Ms. McRae.

(2) Wednesday March 7 is also the deadline for any MARCH BREAK TRIP APPLICATIONS - if you intend to travel, you must get the paperwork and permissions done!


If there are any students still in the process of applying for the IB program, but who have not submitted their applications yet, please see Ms. Chicanot so your name can be included on the list.

1. COAST CAPITAL SAVINGS YOUTH INTERN PROGRAM: combine real world paid experience with public community events. Great lead-in to financial services education and employment. See Ms. McNamee for details - application deadline April 11.18.
2. STAR CINEMA IS HIRING! Must be available to work weekends and week nights, during spring break, and summer. Flexibility required for shift coverage ;perks of this job include movie watching with a guest on your time off!
3. LONGVIEW FARMS URGENTLY NEEDS DAFFODIL PICKERS. PIECEWORK @ $20 PER BOX. An average picker does 4 to 5 per day; good pickers over 10 boxes per day! See Ms. McNamee for further information.

5. TERN PLACE, NORTH SAANICH - raking leaves and cedar branches - students need transportation. Four hours, @ $15 per hour.
6. EAST SAANICH ROAD - digging holes for tree planting.

7. BROOKLEIGH ROAD - ELK LAKE - spring clean-up inside, windows; $12 per hour, 6 hours per week on Saturdays.


NEW TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP:
NAV CANADA'S EXPLORE AVIATION CAMP for girls interested in a career in aviation. Summer Camp in Cornwall, Ontario, for one week of learning, fun, friendship - focus on AVIATION. All-expenses paid camp with hands-on learning! Deadline: March 9, 2018 - see MS. MCNAMEE ASAP if you are interested in applying!
