Hi Parkland Grad 2012 Parents.
We are in the home stretch to Graduation on June 7th. Here's a few updates and reminders:
Extra Ceremony Tickets available - A limited number of extra Grad Ceremony tickets will be available on a first come, first serve basis, by phone ONLY, from UVic’s Ticket Office (250-721-8480) starting May 24 at 9a.m.. Tickets are $7.50 each, limited to up to two per graduating student. Visa or Mastercard are accepted.
Please note: Additional ticket(s) will not be adjacent to your original seats.
Grad Day Important Notes
Grad Day starts at 11:30am at Beacon Park (Grass area near the pier at the foot of Beacon Ave). There will be a formal picture of the Grad Class at UVIC but grads who want to be in an informal Parkland Girls or Parkland Guys photo should come to the Beacon Park bandshell at Noon. This is a great photo op for Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and friends to come see their “graduate” all dressed up!!

Change of Clothes - Every grad (and their guest) needs to bring with them to Beacon Park on Grad Day, a comfortable change of clothes and comfortable shoes/flip flops for the Aftergrad Party. Students who wear contacts may also want to bring contact solution, case and glasses in their bag. Their change of clothes should be in a backback or small bag (no plastic shopping bags please), and clearly labelled with their first and last name. Good idea for them to put their tux/garment bag in their bag also. This must be dropped off between 11:30 and 12:30pm at the Parkland Tent that will be set up at Beacon Park. The clothes will then be transported down to UVIC and students will receive them just before they go into the Aftergrad. Grads will not see this bag again until 11:00 pm so make sure they don't put anything in it that they may need before then.
Snacks for Grad Day - When Grads leave Beacon Park at 1:00pm they make their own way to UVIC immediately for their rehearsal, formal picture and then ceremony. As there may not be an opportunity to eat lunch during this long day, we recommend that all Grads/Guests bring along some food/snacks and a beverage so that they can stay hydrated and have a more comfortable day. It is also suggested that students wear sun screen, especially if it is a sunny day.
Transportation - All Grads/Guests will be expected to travel on the bus back to Sidney on Friday morning. You will be able to pick up your Grad in the Safeway parking lot at 5:30am. We appreciate you helping us to ensure that everyone arrives home safely, after a long, event filled, day and night. Please note that Grads need to find their own way to UVIC after the time at the Pier. If they drive their own cars to UVIC, arrangements will need to be arranged for the car to be returned to Sidney. All students will return to Sidney on the bus after the “After Grad” returning to Sidney at 5:30 am.
Medication - To ensure the comfort and safety of all attending the After-Grad we are pleased to provide a Wellness Room including volunteer medical and police personnel. As an additional safety measure, we will be requesting all Grads/Guests to turn in any medication upon arrival to our Medical team to ensure that it is available as needed and to ensure that professional help is also available if needed. For those attendees who require that their medication stay with them during the event, we ask that they connect with one of the Medical personnel upon arrival so that they can be aware of their unique needs and can be available to assist them if needed, throughout the event. Please be assured that all conversations and information shared with the Wellness Team are considered confidential and will only be shared among the team as deemed necessary for the safety of the individual.
Aftergrad Volunteers – Please remember to arrive at the UVIC Student Union Building at 9:00 pm. Those who are volunteering have already been contacted. Please email me if you are unsure of what you are doing that night. There will be a detailed list available when you arrive on June 7th (at 9:00 pm)
Potluck Family Grad BBQ - Thursday June 14th. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our Grads in a family atmosphere. Start time is 6:00 pm and takes place just outside the theatre. Please be sure to sign up for this (sign up form available on the website. All students should have received a copy of the form. I am hoping to have all the forms in by Monday May 28th. I will be asking for a few volunteers to help with preparation and cooking.
