Thomas Bennett competing in his 3rd Swiftsure, finishing at 1:05 AM Sunday morning. They finished 10th in the race (out of 46 boats), and 7th in their division.

Last Thursday, Ms. Yager & Ms. Dibblee's PE 9/10 Girls and the Marine 10 class took part in the CTV Community Cleanup and the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup, removing 10 bags of garbage from Parkland School grounds and our surrounding community. Thank you to both classes!!
The Parkland Marine 10 class climbed Horth Hill this week as part of their preparation for their overnight trip to Bamberton Provincial Park in May. This linear class combines Science 10 with a marine focus and PE 10 with outdoor education activities such as paddling and hiking.
Skipper Thomas Bennett with Theo DuQuesnay and Thomas Plant (Stellys) were the youngest crew racing in the Thrash regatta. Some boats withdrew due to torn sails and broken gear as they battled 20+ knots of wind but Parkland students stayed strong!

Parkland hosted a very successful Marine Career Fair on February 25th. We had over 25 exhibitors from our local area providing information on careers and further training opportunities in the Marine Sector. Featured were opportunities in Marine Science, Marine recreation, and Marine repair and restoration. Over 1000 students went through the fair over the course of the day!

Parkland student Thomas Bennett and the Westerly crew place first in the Van Isle 360--a race that circumnavigates Vancouver Island. Great accomplishment for a Parkland Marine student!

The Spring Sailing League started on April 4th and it ends on June 6th with a Regatta at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Thirteen Parkland students are participating. They practice Wednesdays from 4-7 PM and Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
So far they are off to a great start!
