TUESDAY JANUARY 19, 2016 - WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR!
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, MEETINGS, EVENTS:

Tickets for MUSICAL THEATRE PRODUCTION OF "LEGALLY BLONDE" are selling fast! There is still room in Wednesday and Thursday shows, but Friday and Saturday nights are nearly sold out!  See Mrs. Wigbers in  front office FOR TICKETS.

Deadline for spirit wear has been extended! ORDERS DUE TODAY Tuesday Jan 19th - LESS THAN ONE WEEK to make a decision! Forms are available at the office for pick up, so come get yours, you don't want to miss out!

There will be an important meeting and semester farewell for all international students on Wednesday, January 20th at lunch.  The meeting will take place in the gym instead of the theatre and will start right after the bell as lunch will be provided!

NOMINATE Outstanding COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS for Hearts of the Community Awards - nominate volunteers who make a difference! See Beacon Community website to complete nomination form. DEADLINE FOR NOMINATIONS: Thursday January 28, 2016.

Any international students interested in going on the next Whistler ski and snowboarding trip in early March should pick up a consent package from Ms. Jocelyne right away.  The deadline to register is February 4th!

SEMESTER TWO TIMETABLES  - CAN BE PICKED UP AT BREAK, AT LUNCH OR AFTER SCHOOL FROM FRONT OFFICE.
 
YOGA START-UP: For all of January, interested students are welcome to drop in and try out Yoga Before School class, Tuesdays and Thursday at 7 a.m. in the theatre. New students can register for second semester to earn 2 credits.

Call for nominations: COURAGE TO COME BACK AWARD - share the story of someone who has overcome adversity or illness, and gone on to help others. Nomination deadline: February 12, 2016 - @ couragetocomeback.ca, or email: courage@coastmentalhealth.com.

NATIONAL INDIGENOUS WRITING CONTEST: contest for Indigneous student writers to showcase their talents, and present their stories and retold legends. Rules and guidelines: see front office window; Deadline: February 29, 2016.


ATTENTION ALL GRADS:  2016 GRAD TRANSITIONS BOOKLET is now on the Parkland website. See: students / grad page / grad transitions. There are three buttons, or sections, to be completed.  FIRST READ INSTRUCTIONS carefully, and be sure to give full answers throughout. See Ms. McNamee to see a sample paper copy. Each 2016 GRAD must complete booklet and hand it in before GT interview is scheduled in April. Button 4 will be loaded later, to show sample questions for your interview preparation, and schedule.

Grad students are reminded about the opportunity to sign up to be an organ donor.  Application forms at front office.

2016 GRADS applying for early admission, or for scholarships or bursaries, please give at least two days notice to the front office for obtaining copies of your current transcript.

ATHLETICS, SPORTS TEAMS, TEAM MEETINGS:

Congratulations to the senior girls basketball team for finishing 3rd at the Brentwood Ogilvie Invitational tournament. The girls won their first game over shawnigan lake by 40. Sarah Gibson lead the team with 36 points. The team lost in the semis to the eventual tournament winner G.P Vanier. The last game the senior girls played was against Brentwood the host team for third and fourth. The game was close all the way. The senior girls were behind until the mid point of the fourth quarter when Lauren Faanelli took over and lead the team to a hard fought win. Lauren lead the team with 35 points. All of the girls played hard and contributed to their success this weekend. Lauren Fanelli, Sarah Gibson and Olivia Kuyvenhoven were all recognized as players of the games.

The next intramural league is HANDBALL. Get your 4 person plus goalie team into the office by Next Friday, January 29th. Intramural Handball League starts in second semester.

Attention ALL VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS! Tommi is running free drop-in volleyball on Sunday nights. Guys and Girls , all grades welcome from 7 TO 9 P.M.  on Sunday nights.

MATH HELP CENTRE:  open Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays - after school until 4 p.m. for extra math help. Meet in room 105 for help with any math course you are taking this semester.

MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: now open at lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz. thank you to Mrs. Beaucamp for making this happen!
