CONGRATULATIONS TO Faith Lindley-Brown and Tomas Kalyniuk on their participation in the Vital Youth year end ceremony @ Hotel Grand Pacific last  Tuesday evening, where they read a speech closing the year to donors, recipients, teachers, other Vital Youth groups, and Victoria Foundation board members. Parkland's Vital Youth club, including Emma Jackson and Nancy Chen, dispersed $2,500 to Out of the Rain, Cool Aid Society, and Victoria Therapeutic Riding Society over the past year.

CYCLE OF HOPE ALS FUNDRAISER - FREQUENT FLYER 10 K: Sunday June 12 from 11 to 2 - includes RUN AND SWIM EVENTS ON MAY 13. Students register for CYCLE OF HOPE EVENT at www.cycleofhope.com, & must register by May 25 to get school name on participant shirt.

ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

Just a friendly reminder to all international students that the Program Year-End Farewell BBQ is Wednesday, June 1st from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Stelly's.  Please talk to your host families about attending and have them reply to the email they received as soon as possible, or just let Ms. Jocelyne know if you plan on coming!


REMEMBER: if you are an International student leaving before the end of the school year, you must ensure all your textbooks and library books, and any incidental school fees are returned and / or paid for before you leave.

PARKLAND IS PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY ONE OF OUR ATHLETES WHO TOOK PART IN THE ISLAND TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS @ UVC THIS WEEK! Participants included:

- Jonny Cayou in both Discus and Shot Put

- Josh Newton in 800 metre

- Charlotte Zimmerman and Sophie Weil in throwing events

- Conner McCullough, Ben Welsh, Jonah Ragsdale and Jacob Tostwaryk in sprints and team 4 x 100 relay

- Josh Carmichael in Javelin

and making it into the FINALS - TOP 8 OF THE ISLANDS, THE FOLLOWING:

- Cooper Langard - both 800 and 400 metres

- Paulina Paston - 3rd in Junior Girls Shot Put, will represent Parkland in the B.C.'S

- Jarrod Harris, Michael Taylor, Syril Silaya and Ben Sammons - 4 x 100 Senior Boys relay - 2nd! overall.

- Josh Carmichael, Jarrod Harris, Michael Taylor and Ben Sammons - Senior Boys 4 x 400 - 4th - going to B.C.'s!

- Michael Taylor - 200 metres

- Syril Silaya - 1st in Long Jump; 2nd in 100 metres.

- Ben Sammons - 1st in both 300 metre and 100 metre hurdles, setting record time in 300; 2nd in 400 metres - photo finish;

SO FAR - 6 PARKLAND ATHLETES ARE GOING TO THE B.C.'S! THANKS TO ALL STUDENTS WHO REPRESENTED PARKLAND

SO WELL, and sincere thanks to Ms. McNamee for her guidance, enthusiasm, and amazing support for our track atheletes!

Thanks too, to Mr. Choo, Ms. Beaucamp, and Mr. Buckham for their ground support, driving and extra energy for all!

MINI DOUGHNUT STAND IS NOW HIRING: Stand runs at Summer Markets, and is hiring students, beginning @ $11 per hour. Sidney Market, Victoria Market, cruise ship terminal and others. Transportation is important to consider if you are interested in working at all the markets. See Ms. McNamee for further information.


Did you go to Sidney Elementary? Want to give back to your wonderful school? Student volunteers needed for Spring Fling, Friday  June 3rd.  Last year 10 wonderful Parkland Panthers gave back to their community. Please see Ms. Mac to VOLUNTEER.


VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Brentwood Festival @ Pioneer Park - Saturday June 4 from 9 to 3 p.m. - help plan and prepare craft activities and face painting for the YEP table. See Ms. McNamee to VOLUNTEER.

SEASIDE MAGAZINE: TAKING IT TO THE STREET ROAD HOCKEY CHARITY EVENT FOR HELP FILL A DREAM FOUNDATION:

@ Mary Winspear Centre - Saturday, June 11th, 2016 -  3rd Annual “Taking it to the Street”. Proceeds provide services and support to Vancouver Island children facing life-threatening conditions by fulfilling their Dreams. Fun volunteer positions including: registration, traffic, family fun, set-up, referree, cotton candy, groundskeeper, event marshall. See Ms. McNamee to VOLUNTEER.

BAGEL BREAKFAST: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday mornings, before school, @ blue tables area.

MATH HELP CENTRE: !Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school until 4 p.m. Please come to room 105 for help !

MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: @ lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz.

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORIAL: TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY- 3:15 to 4: 30 p.m.; FRIDAY - 1:50 to 3:10 p.m. In RM 103.
