Congratulations to the Sr. Boys soccer team who played an amazing game against Spectrum and tied them 3-3.  Goals were scored by Abraao, Jason and Ben.  Elliott had a spectacular game in net and kept the team in the game making some very incredible saves.  Great work team.


Congratulations to the Senior Girls Volleyball team who won their first game over St. Andrews. And good lunck to the Junior Girls Volleyball team in their tournmanet in Belmont this weekend!


Congratulations to the Parkland Cross Country Team for a great first race! Arianna Stevenson placed 3rd in the Sr. Girls race, Patricia Alonsa was 8th in the Jr. Girls race and Cooper Langard was 13th in the Sr. Boys race. The next practice is Tuesday after school, new runners always welcome, meet Mr. Thomas on the track at 3:15 ready to run! 



PARKLAND MARINE:

If there are any interested Marine students that would like to take the course Boating Two, Beyond the PCOC, the Saanich Peninsula Squadron is offering this course at Parkland Secondary School starting Tuesday October 4th at 7pm.  The cost for Parkland students is $80.  Students can register online at boatingcourses.ca or see Ms. Chicanot if you would like more information.


In block B classes will be continuing to collect "Toonies for Terry and Tour de Rock" to help support the Terry Fox foundation as well as the Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock. Bring in your extra toonies today and next week and let's see if we can make our goal of $1000 by the end of next Thursday.

Hello Parkland!
When School Pictures are taken, a Parkland student ID card is created.  Please carry ID with you for the entire school year so you can use it to borrow books in the library.  Students who use Student ID Cards to borrow books will be entered into a prize draw in October!
STUDENT ID CARDS ARE NOW AVAILABLE AT FRONT OFFICE - YOU MUST KNOW YOUR TAG TEACHER TO PICK UP YOUR STUDENT
CARD. Please come at break, lunch or after school only for pick-up.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: Whistler Ski Trip Applications will be available from Ms. McRae in Counselling @ BREAK, LUNCH, OR AFTER SCHOOL. Deadline for applications is next Thursday, October 6.

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA HOSTS Model United Nations Club Conference, from October 21 to 23, 2016. Opportunity for high school students to follow their interests and exercise their abilities in debate and diplomacy, while creating plausible solutions to issues that are currently plaguing the world. This year's theme: Global Unity - Social, Political and Economic Protection of Vulnerable Peoples.

$100,000 LORAN Scholarship

Only meeting about the LORAN scholarship 

The deadline for the $100,000 is rapidly approaching.  Parkland can sponsor up to three candidates that exemplify "character, service, and leadership".  Come to the textiles room (room #404) on Monday, October 3rd  at the beginning of lunchtime to find out how to apply to be sponsored for the $100,000 LORAN scholarship.



UNIVERSITIES AND POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS WILL HAVE ADVISORS @ PARKLAND - THURSDAY OCTOBER 27TH, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Information  provided about each institution, with advisors answering questions about admission, programs, scholarships, registration, etc. Up-to-date and through knowledge about each school provided. This is a golden opportunity to learn all you need to assist with your admission choices, applications, and future education decisions. Attending will be: Royal Roads, Camosun, Vancouver Island University, UVIC, Quest, Thompson Rivers University, SFU, and others. Mark your calendar now!

INTRAMURAL VOLLEYBALL is coming soon (as early as next week!). Come to the gym to get your sign up form and return it to Mr. Sutton by Friday. The more teams that enter the better!

ALL BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS; JUNIOR AND SENIOR - regular Sunday night drop-in with Mr. Coughlin, runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in Parkland Gym. Please come out for a run to play some pick-up basketball to get ready for the upcoming season!

JUNIOR AND SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: regular Sunday night drop-in, from 5 to 7 p.m. See you there!

SAANICH PENINSULA U18 GIRLS BASKETBALL: Fun Night League Basketball - no experience necessary! Takes place @ Bayside Middle School, Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., October to March. Register through Panorama Recreation Centre, $50.
