MINDFULNESS GROUP is meeting on Monday's and Friday's at lunch in the upper conference room. Come and take a break from your busy day while learning techniques to calm your mind and body. All students and staff are welcome!

STUDENTS MAY PICK UP SCHOOL PHOTOS AND HONOUR ROLL CERTIFICATES AT LUNCH, OR AFTER SCHOOL only FROM THE FRONT OFFICE. Sample photos are available for everyone. Please - no leaving classes for pick-ups!

PHOTO RETAKE DAY IS OCTOBER 18. Photos are used for YEARBOOK and STUDENT records system, and to create student bus cards. Please be sure to have your photo done or redone TUESDAY Oct 18.

UNIVERSITY OF VICTORIA HOSTS Model United Nations Club Conference, from October 21 to 23, 2016. Students follow their interests  in debate and diplomacy. This year's theme: Global Unity - Social, Political and Economic Protection of Vulnerable Peoples. Please contact your teachers for further information and to arrange permission to attend this special conference.

ATTENTION ALL 2017 GRADS:
Reminder to all students applying for the $100,000 LORAN scholarship to start their online applications now.  To be considered as an applicant sponsored by Parkland, the deadline for emailing your cover and reference letters to Ms. Chicanot  and Mr. Choo is 3:00 pm on Friday, October 14th.  Good Luck.

UNIVERSITIES AND POST-SECONDARY INSTITUTIONS WILL HAVE ADVISORS @ PARKLAND - THURSDAY OCTOBER 27TH, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Advisors will be answering questions about admission, programs, scholarships, registration, etc.  This is a golden opportunity to GATHER INFO to assist with your admission choices, applications, and future education decisions. ATHLETICS, SPORTS TEAMS, TEAM MEETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:


COME OUT AND CHEER THE JUNIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM after school today Wednesday October 12, at 3:30 p.m., as they play Royal Bay at Blue Heron.

COME OUT TO CHEER ON THE SENIOR BOYS VOLLEYBALL TEAM IN THEIR HOME GAMES TONIGHT! Games start at 6 p.m., versus Spectrum, Mt Doug and PCS. Parkland played this past weekend in Nanaimo and played extremely well, finishing second in their pool, and losing a very close match to powerful Oak Bay in play-offs. Ethan Bond received an all-star recognition for the tournament.

INTRAMURAL VOLLLEYBALL starts this Thursday October 13, @ lunch, and continues every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until November 30. This Thursday is Emilia's Team against Pablo's team.

CONGRATULATIONS to the SENIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM as they defeated Reynolds 5 to 0 Monday Afternoon. Great job by our defence to keep them scoreless, and keeper Eliott who earned the shutout. Goals were scored by Ben, Abraao (3), and Fabian. Great job team! Their next game is Thursday October 13 against Esquimalt at Hampton Field. Good luck boys!

Congratulations to Arianne Stevenson who finished 2nd in last week's senior girls cross country race! Runners wishing to participate MUST see Mr. Thomas. All runners, including new runners who still want to participate, please meet in the cafeteria on Monday October 24 at break for an important meeting.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM, plaus Caitlin and Mel for their wins over St. Margaret's, Reynolds, Frances Kelsey and Esquimalt, to take 1st place in the consolation final at the Camosun Tournament this past weekend.
Good luck to the Senior Girls in their game Tuesday night, and check out the volleyball after school Wednesday, October 12, as the Junior Girls and Senior Boys host HOME GAMES starting at 3:30 p.m. Go Panthers!

ALL BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS; JUNIOR AND SENIOR - regular Sunday night drop-in with Mr. Coughlin, runs from 7 to 9 p.m. in Parkland Gym. Please come out for a run to play some pick-up basketball to get ready for the upcoming season!

JUNIOR AND SENIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: regular Sunday night drop-in, from 5 to 7 p.m. See you there!

SAANICH PENINSULA U18 GIRLS BASKETBALL: Fun Night League Basketball - no experience necessary! Takes place @ Bayside Middle School, Monday evenings, from 7:30 to 9 p.m., October to March. Register through Panorama Recreation Centre, $50.


CAREER CENTRE, CAREER EVENTS, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB AND VOLUNTEER POSTINGS:

Solider for A Day- Saturday November 5th:
One day event intended to give an interactive introduction to the various career opportunities available in the Canadian Armed Forces with a focus on the Army reserve.
Programme starts with an introduction to the facilities and then basic military concepts such as drill (marching) and dress and deportment. Students learn and experience a wide range of military equipment. They will be introduced to weapons, vehicles, training equipment and military rations. We will also be introducing students to some unique tactics and training. It will end with them receiving a briefing on education and employment opportunities available as well as how to join the Canadian Armed Forces.

Imagining Possibilities Conference:
This conference is designed to Inspire and Enlighten young women! If you are interested in attending this free conference, on October 26th, Please come to a meeting this Friday October 14 at lunch in the Careers Center.

SOUND THE ALARM! Any students interested in applying to attend the FIRE / RESCUE CADET CAMP must get in touch with Ms. McNamee ASAP. This is a week long camp dedicated to the basics for firefighting, search and rescue, medical first aid response, and rope rescue. Strong emphasis on teamwork, physical fitness, community service and fun! This course ALSO qualifies for 4 credits!
This is your chance to take up a challenge, and explore what could be your life path!
