REMINDER TO ALL GRADS: Be sure to wear your ORANGE GRAD PINNIES tomorrow to show your support for ORANGE SHIRT DAY!

ALL STUDENT DRIVERS: If you have not yet registered your vehicle with the forms available from the front office, and placed your Parkland decal on the back of your rearview mirror, please do so ASAP to keep your parking privileges.

TODAY: MUSIC FOR MEXICO: September 28 @ lunch in the theatre.  Come along to have a fun lunchhour . Only a toonie for admission & funds are for a great cause! Some very talented Parkland students will rock the house! Don't miss this one!

TOMORROW: FRIDAY: SEPTEMBER 29 - TERRY FOX RUN!
The Terry Fox run is happening tomorrow, you can run or walk. Be sure to bring rain gear because the forecast is changing, and we may see some drizzle and cooler temperatures. Listen to tomorrow's announcement so you will know what will happen and where.

FRIDAY: SEPTEMBER 29 - ORANGE SHIRT DAY! Wear your orange shirt and show support for survivors of residential schools and their families - EVERY CHILD MATTERS!

SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 30: CANADIAN RESERVES OPEN HOUSE -  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., @ Ashton Armoury, Saanich. AMAZING OPPORTUNITIES - Communications, Electronics, Medical Units,  Technicians - TRAINING IS PAID FOR! See Ms. McNamee for info.

ALL STUDENTS: WORK EXPERIENCE 12A & 12B REGISTRATION DEADLINE: September 30th. Employed students, or students volunteering, wanting work experience credit must see Ms. McNamee to register FRIDAY THIS WEEK! If WEX is already on your timetable, you also must see Ms. McNamee to activate course before September 30!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: Whistler Ski Trip is from December 6 to 8th. See Ms. McRae for field trip applications at break or at lunch. There is space for just 30 Parkland students, so don't delay!


OVER THE NEXT TWO WEEKS, the Leadership students will be collecting TOONIES FOR TERRY and TOUR DE ROCK in Block C. Please consider bringing in change to donate to both these worthy fundraisers!

This is a call for all junior and senior girls wanting to play basketball this year please see Ms, Gribling in the front office ASAP.


GRAD PARENTS: plan for 2018!  10 Parents needed to get things started, plus volunteers through the year. To be part of this committee, or to gain more info on what parents do to help their Grads, please contact Carol Gribling at front office.

    
Are you an artist, a wordsmith or a filmmaker? Essays, poems, colour and black and white posters welcome. Create ART OR LITERATURE about Remembrance Day, what it means to you and Canada. Deadline: Nov 15, 2017; entry forms available front office.

STUDENT GROUP BAND LOOKING FOR MEMBERS: bass, piano player, and singer needed. Music genres: funk, blues, soul, and rock. Contact international student: Hannes Hacke. See notice board for further details.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND GRAD INFORMATION:

GRADE 12 STUDENTS: University of Toronto NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP now accepting applications. This scholarship fully covers tuition and expenses for four years of undergrad study at U of T. Deadline: Nov 3, 2017. Email Mr. Choo or Ms. Rioux for details.

GRADE TWELVE STUDENTS: If you would like to receive emails about scholarships, post secondary application and admission information, please EMAIL Mr. Choo WITH YOUR RETURN EMAIL to be added to his contact list.  Some major scholarships will be available very soon.
 
GRADE 12 STUDENTS: LORAN scholarship now accepting applications.  The LORAN scholarship is worth over $100,000.  If you would like your application to be sponsored by Parkland, deadline is October 18th.  If applying on your own, deadline is October 25th.  Email Mr. Choo for details.


GRADE 12 STUDENTS: THURSDAY OCTOBER 5 FROM 1:30 TO 3 P.M. - CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES EVENT takes place at Parkland! More than 40 universities and colleges on site - information, displays, application requirements, scholarships, housing and student residences availability. Be sure to attend and explore some future education options!

ATHLETICS, SPORTS TEAMS, TEAM MEETINGS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS: TBA

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SMALL BUT MIGHTY PARKLAND CROSS COUNTRY TEAM for a great first race! Cooper Langard was 2nd overall in the Boys Senior Race, and Lucas Benson was 19th overall in the Boys Junior Race.The next team practice starts Tuesday October 3 at 3:20 p.m. on the track. New runners always welcome.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED:

(1) If you enjoy working with children and have a talent for Face Painting, Sidney event Sunday October 22 from 11 to 2 at Sidney Band Shell, Pumpkin Carving event, needs you! See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(2) ARTS REACH YOUTH COUNCIL seeking youth volunteers for 4 hours per month at community events. The WORKSHOP AND TEACHING experience, AS WELL AS thank you gifts for this volunteer position are extraordinary - see posters on Career Centre boards, and Ms. McNamee to sign up!

FOOD SAFE LEVEL 1 -  OCTOBER 20 - 8:30 to 4:30; @ SHOAL CENTRE; cost is $50 ( on non-instructional day). This is a great one to attend. Course is filling up fast, so see Ms. McNamme ASAP!

ALERT FIRST AID NOVEMBER 4 - all day @ Shoal Centre; cost is $50.00. See Ms. McNamee to register, and get start times!

BASICS OF BANKING & FINANCE: OCTOBER 28, FROM 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. @ Shoal Centre. BUDGETING AND BASIC BANKING.


NEW JOB POSTINGS:

(1) WORK WITH SENIOR; Resthaven Drive - tidy and sort, recycling, odd jobs. Two hours a week, @ $15.00 per hour.

(2) Commercial Landscape Maintenance company is seeking one or two individuals for daily early morning service to commercial property in Sidney. Must be able to transport equipment from home, arrive on site for 6 to 6:30 a.m. daily, one hour shift each morning.

(3) KUMON MATH AND READING CENTRE: two grade 11 students with strong English skills, thinking of a career in Teaching!  Must be available after school on weekdays. Please see Ms. McNamee for further information, and find out how to apply.


TUTORIALS AND COURSEWORK ASSISTANCE: see below.

TUTORIALS IN THE LEARNING CENTRE:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thrusday, Friday - after school. Wednesday and Friday times are good for completing longer tests and assignments.

LEARNING COMMONS SUPPORT: available every day after school until 3:40 p.m. ELL TUTOR also available at these times.

SIDES HELP CENTRE: check for availability when schedule is set.
CULTURAL ROOM TUTORING NOW AVAILABLE: check for availability when schedule is set.

MUSIC REHEARSALS ALL YEAR:
JAZZ BAND - Monday & Wednesday morning each week;  CONCERT BAND - Tuesday & Thursday morning each week; CHOIR - Friday morning each week. ALL REHEARSALS start SEPTEMBER 18TH, begin promptly at 7 a.m., IN THE MUSIC ROOM. See Ms. Sousa for any further info.
