PARKLAND WILL BE HOSTING ITS ANNUAL COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE tomorrow night ON THURSDAY FEBRUARY 8, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone welcome! Come and experience our new Virtual Reality lab, hear about our Hockey, Judo, and Sailing academies. Listen to an amazing Parkland band, have some chili, hear about the IB program, and lots more. See you on Thursday!


ALL STUDENTS INVOLVED IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE BIG BUDDY PROGRAM at North Saanich tomorrow THURSDAY FEBRUARY 8 after school, please remember to be at North Saanich Middle School by 3:15 on Thursday. Ms. Elm will be walking form Parkland to NSMS at 3 p.m. on Thursday, so meet by the blue tables if you are walking from the school.


PARKLAND MOCK TRIAL TEAM: Anyone in, or interested in joining Parkland' s Mock Trial Team there will be a meeting after school on Friday February 9 in the library learning commons. This is a great opportunity if you are interested in the law or debate.


ALL STUDENTS: COME SIGN YOUR SIGNATURE for the yearbook! We want to get as many student signatures as possible! We'll be in the main foyer at lunch for the rest of the week.



INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: the deadline for the Mount Washington Ski Trip application is this coming Friday, February 9th. See Ms. McRae in Counselling for information.


WRITING 12 STUDENTS FROM SEMESTER ONE: please pick up any of your assignments from Room 111 this week - until February 9th.

ALL GRADS: repeat GT SESSION - FRIDAY FEBRUARY 16 from 2:`15 p.m. to 4 p.m.in the Learning Commons - all grads must attend at least one GT session in prep for GRAD qualification. Be sure to attend if you need additional assistance following session one - the DEADLINE for turning in your completed GT BOOKLET IS COMING FAST!

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 17, 2018 - ANNUAL EXPLORE UVIC DAY - full day event which enables students to visit UVIC, and explore INFORMATION FAIR on all aspects of admissions, co-op education, financial aid, student awards, athletics and recreation, residence services. WITT - WOMEN IN TRADES & TECHNOLOGY EXPLORATION DAY - Wednesday February 21, 2018 - @ CAMOSUN COLLEGE from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Explore trades & technologies career pathways - electricians, auto service techs, sheet metal fabricators, carpenters, civil engineering, computer science, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering. FUN, HANDS-ON ACTIVITIES - see Ms. McNamee to register! PARKLAND STUDENTS WILL BE ATTENDING, BUSES PROVIDED.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23 - YOUTH EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM JOB FAIR @ Shoal Centre, Sidney - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. - meet employers with summer and part-time job openings! Door prizes for the first 50 registrants!



SATURDAY FEBRUARY 24 - SOLDIER FOR A DAY - from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. - 715 Bay Street, Victoria, B.C. For all students interested in CANADIAN ARMED FORCES RESERVES, how a soldier is trained, what equipment and vehicles are used. Experience a portion of the annual fitness test, and receive basic instruction in marching and drill. SPACE IS LIMITED, so early registration is encouraged. See Ms. McNamee for registration details, and further information about the day.



SOUTHERN VANCOUVER ISLAND SKILLS CANADA REGIONAL COMPETITION - DISCOVER TRADES & TECHNOLOGY EVENT: WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7, 2018 @ CAMOSUN COLLEGE - INTERURBAN CAMPUS. Some of our Parkland students will participate in this annual competition. Parents and spectators are welcome! For more info, go to:

1. SENIOR GIRLS compete at Lambrick this Thursday to Saturday for Lower Island Play-offs.

2. JUNIOR BOYS and JUNIOR GIRLS are both playing AWAY GAMES this week, to see if they move on to the following play-off rounds.

3. SENIOR BOYS are playing their final 3 league games this week, and they are all HOME GAMES:

  -  TUESDAY versus GNS - the SENIOR BOYS team fought hard but came up short against PCS. Come out and watch Thursday and Friday!

 - THURSDAY FEBRUARY 8 - Parkland's Open House - @ 6 p.m. versus St. Andrew's

 - FRIDAY FEBRUARY 9 - OUR SPIRIT GAME - @ 7:30 p.m. versus Spectrum


Be sure to throw on some SPIRIT WEAR and come out to cheer on the team at any one of these games - it would be GREAT to see as many students and staff as possible supporting our players!

NEW JOBS:

1. MARINER'S PIZZA: part-time customer service staff needed.

2. DEEP COVE MARKET: local market looking for keen, responsible, hard-working students to work part-time, evenings and weekends, in the store and deli. This is a great job!

3. SHAW CENTRE FOR THE SALISH SEA: cashier, information, merchandising, telephone reception, clean-up - $12 per hour, part-time, Saturdays and Sundays, usually 10 to 12 hours per week. Some evenings required. See Ms. McNamee.

4. NORTH SAANICH YARD WORK - work alongside avid gardener & artist, start ASAP. Four hours a week, $15.00 per hour.

5. ELK LAKE YARD AND HOUSEWORK - two students needed; one outside and one inside help required;  Saturdays for 6 hours each day, starting in March @ $12.00 per hour.

6. KITTIWAKE PLACE, NORTH SAANICH - branch and leaf collection and bagging; 4 hours, $12.00 per hour.

1. FOOD SAFE LEVEL 1 - MONDAY MARCH 5 - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - food service, food retail, food processing. $50 fee.

2. WORK SAFE FOR YEP - Friday May 4 - 3 hour FREE WORKSHOP; great for resume.

3. ALERT FIRST AID - SATURDAY MAY 5 - 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. - basic CPR, first aid, hands-on training. $50 registration.
