Friday May 18, 2018: SPIRIT DAY @ PARKLAND

ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: THE SPRING FOOD DRIVE ends today FRIDAY May  18. Please donate non-perishable food items or money to support our local food bank. Collection happens in Block B.


FRIDAY MAY 18: BIG DAY AT PARKLAND! - Spirit Assembly - BLOCK B; SPRING BAR B Q PAC LUNCH for all students; IMPORTANT GRAD ASSEMBLY - BLOCK C!  WEAR YOUR PARKLAND GEAR - and it's a big day - Don't miss it!


REMINDER TO ALL GRADS: There will be an important Grad Assembly this Friday May 18th in C block in the theatre. ALL 2018 GRADS SHOULD BE IN ATTENDANCE!


BIG CONGRATS TO THE PARKLAND SMALL BUT MIGHTY TRACK AND FIELD TEAM - everyone did so well at the meet in Port Alberni this week! Every athlete we sent received at least one top 8 placing in the ISLANDS which is a fabulous achievement! 

Misaki Akutagawa place 1st in Senior Girls Javelin - with a throw of 39.65 metres - 6.5 metres better than 2nd place! All the other javelin throwers and spectators cheered her on! Wonderful to see such sportsmanship at her event!

Ben Sammons placed 2nd in two Seniors Boys events: 200 meetre, and 400 metre. Extremely close races in very hot conditions, and a wonderful result!

Cooper Langar place 3rd in 1500 metres - the top three finishers were in a photo finish, a very exciting race! Cooper also placed 5th in the 3000 metres, in another very close race.

Alexis Vander Bulk came 5th in Junior Girls Shot Put, and 9th in 100 metres.

Leona Yao, came 6th in Senior Girls Long Jump, and 7th in Triple Jump! Congratulations, Leona!

Ava Blakely, in grade 9, came 8th in the 3000.

Top 5 finishers in each category go on to the B.C.'S, so Misaki, Ben, Cooper, and Alexis will represent Parkland and the Island at the next round - our athletes are all heart, and Parkland CONGRATULATES every one! Thank you too, for Ms. McNamee, for leading and supporting and cheering on!


ALL STUDENTS: MONDAY MAY 21 IS VICTORIA DAY - STATUTORY HOLIDAY, NO SCHOOL! Have a great long weekend!


PARKLAND GRAD PARENT COMMITTEE MEETING: Grad parent committee is inviting all grad parents to the next grad parent meeting- WEDNESDAY MAY 23 @ 7 P.M. in the Learning Commons. Parent volunteers are needed for the following tasks: volunteers for June 27 set-up; card dealers for casino tables; handing out t-shirts; providing board games; donating cookie trays, fruit and veggie trays, etc. Parent volunteers are necessary to ensure the success of the After Grad event. Any support parents can donate would be greatly appreciated! Please contact PARKLANDGRADPARENT@gmail.com, and come out to the planning meeting!

Up to 15 hours per week, @ $15.85 per hour plus additional in lieu of benefits. NEW: FAMILY HELPER, DINNER PREP / MAKING, clean-up  - two days a week, three hours per day from 4 to 7 p.m.; @ $15 per hour.

TUTORIALS AND COURSE WORK ASSISTANCE: LOTS OF HELP AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT AVAILABLE!

1. ROOM 201, EACH DAY FOR 1 HOUR AND FIFTEEN MINUTES, with Mr. Morley - available to help students with MATH, CALCULUS, SCIENCE, PHYSICS, CHEMISTRY. OPEN to all students, including those working on SIDES courses.

2. TUTORIALS IN LEARNING CENTRE: REMINDER TO ALL TEACHERS AND STUDENTS - TUTORIAL IS AVAILABLE daily after school.                                            Wednesday & Friday tutorial times are best for longer tests & assignments.
3. LEARNING COMMONS SUPPORT: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday day after school until 3:40 p.m., Wednesday & Friday until 3:35 p.m.

4. MATH & SCIENCE HELPavailable every day after school in Room 208.
