REMINDER: you or your parents / guardians cannot purchase Grad Ceremony tickets until you are fully qualified for grad, all grad paperwork is in, GT complete and all fees  paid! SEE GRAD NOTICE BOARD FOR 2 SETS OF SPREADSHEETS - (1) GT QUALIFICATION, and (2) GRAD CEREMONY paperwork.

 ***FRIDAY MAY 24 - DAY OF SILENCE -in solidarity with those LGBTQ youth in our Parkland community who may spend their days in an isolating silence in regard to who they are and who they might feel safe to love. Those who have chosen to remain silent may be wearing a predominantly orange sticker, while those who support but choose to talk, or have to talk, will have the blue sticker. Please support in any way you can. Those that have one, it would be great if you wore your "Love Is Love" t-shirt tomorrow!

7TH ANNUAL SIDFEST: FRIDAY MAY 24, 2019 @ MARY WINSPEAR CENTRE - tickets $10 available from Parkland school office, or any of the musicians. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show at 7:30. THIS SHOW SELLS OUT - get your tickets early! Musicians this year include: BANKES BROTHERS, BLISH, MADRONA DRIVE, MANGO PARADE, ALEXIS VAN DEN BULK; SLOW DAYS; CLAYTON HARRIS; NICOLE GLOVER. All proceeds go to the SAANICH PENINSULA YOUTH HEALTH CLINIC!

MONDAY MAY 27 - ROYAL CANADIAN NAVY RECRUITMENT BUS visits Parkland all day - take a tour and explore this exciting, challenging career choice - many different paths toward education, service, special training. The Navy bus showcases what the Royal Canadian Navy does, both here in Canada and all over the world. It has interactive displays and a theatre onboard. A great opportunity for high school students to learn more about job opportunities and careers in the Navy, both full-time and part-time. The bus will be available for all students to visit at lunch. STUDIO 63 HAIRSTYLIST PROGRAM WILL VISIT PARKLAND: Tuesday May 28 for demos, updo's, hairstyle try-outs. Come down to the front foyer and see what they can do! Grad style examples welcome!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Parkland Sailing Team who competed in the Discovery Cup Regatta last weekend at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Next regatta is SATURDAY JUNE 8 at Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Parkland has 7 international students sailing this season, along with 7 more for a team of 14! Watch for team photos on the school t.v. screen!


PARKLAND TRACK & FIELD TEAM RESULTS: Results at the Island Championships were fantastic! Six students qualified for B.C. Track & Field Championships at the end of May in Kelowna! Congratulations to the following students for their dedication and 2019 achievements: Cooper Langard, Taiga Okamoto, Carlos Flores Troncoso, Alexis Van Den Bulk, Blanca Ros Moreno, Jaylyn Wolfe, Gaby Fernandez, Jose Ballenza Villanueva! and many thanks to Ms. McNamee as coach, and Ms. Beaucamp, assistance.

TEAC 105 EXPLORES FOUR TECHNOLOGIES - mechanical engineering, electronics, civil engineering, computer science - course takes place @ CAMOSUN INTERURBAN, FRIDAY AFTERNOONs. Hands-on activities, and project-based learning! See Ms. McNamee if interested. Start dates: September and February each year: 3 hours per week, for 13 weeks.

B.C. REGIONAL COUNCIL OF CARPENTERS - SUMMER 2019 student employment - work for union contractors, benefit from pre-work training seminars and certificates. Great opportunity to sample full time summer work in the construction sector, mostly in commercial build settings.

BRENTWOOD FESTIVAL - SATURDAY JUNE 1, 2019 - FROM 9 A.M. TO 4 P.M. @ Pioneer Park - 4 students needed each shift; volunteers for  fun family event - artisans, concerts, farm stands, children's activities, face painting and crafts. See Ms. McNamee for details.


WEDNESDAY JUNE 5 - RAINCOAST CONSERVATION FOUNDATION -  inspiring youth event @ SHAW CENTRE FOR THE SALISH SEA - 5:30 TO 8:30 P.M. - Salish Sea Stewards Celebration. See Ms. McNamee - get involved as a youth volunteer!


KELSET ELEMENTARY SPRING FUNDRAISER: FRIDAY JUNE 7 - volunteers needed for carnival games, face painting, craft tables, ticket booths and more. Fair runs 5 to 8 p.m., set up and clean up crews also needed. See Ms. McNamee to volunteer.

STEP UP YOUTH PROGRAM: DEADLINE JUNE 30, 2019. Volunteer opportunities in healthcare settings - learn about Island Health's C.A.R.E. values, policies, patient-centred care. Interview in July, train in August, for September to April position. Leadership roles, Vancouver Island - @ Royal Jubilee, Victoria General. Anyone interested in healthcare should apply!


ENGINEERING FOR KIDS - VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES from July 2 to August 30 - summer camps for kids interested in science, engineering, math or technology - enjoy hands-on, building minecraft / lego robotics / 3D design.
