Parkland Students Meet with Deputy Minister of Education

Congratulations to our four Parkland students (Simone, Rebecca, Jacqueline, and Trevor) who were invited to chat with Rob Wood, BC's new Deputy Minister of Education Wednesday,December 4th!
Many wonderful ideas regarding the current state of education and where things needs to go,
from a student perspective, were "put on the table"; here are a few of the highlights:

* Learning, as much as possible, needs to be relevant and experiential [not just factual]
* Students respond to teachers they can relate to, ones who understand how students want to learn and who make students want to ask questions!
* Enthusiasm in a classroom (from both teachers and students) is key: should be a partnership/mentorship where people are not afraid to 'change gears'
* We need to keep working at blending the delivery of our core subjects, while at the same time making the learning as reflective of real life as we can
* Students very much appreciate having a say in their own learning wherever possible
