A huge congratulations goes out to our Senior Girls Basketball Team after finishing second place in their Gold Division in the Victoria Christmas Invitational Baskeball Tournament (one of the biggest tournaments in the province) this past weekend! This is the first time in the tournament's 21-year history that a Parkland Senior Girls Team played in a championship game (not to mention the fact that this was the first time a Parkland Senior Girls Team was seeded as the second favorite to win the gold division tournament ahead of schools like Stelly's, St. Michaels, Spectrum, and Mt Doug.) and although they lost a close one to Lord Tweedsmuir of Vancouver in the final they worked extremely hard all tournament and won some very exciting basketball games! The team was led by Kristy Gallagher who averaged over 30 points a game, and seniors Safhanna Hussein and Breanna Clooney were a big part of the overall success with their effort and intensity. Our junior players contributed in a big way as well considering they are all playing up on a Senior team: Arianne Stevenson (second on the team in scoring), Emma Dennis (third on the team in scoring), Lauren Fanelli, Sarah Gibson, Katie Isfeld, Michaela Pennell and Joanna Wollweber all did a wonderful job of handling the pressure of playing at a senior level in a bigtime tournament. All players represented Parkland with much pride and brought another trophy back for the trophy case as a reward for their great play: way to go girls, your school is proud of you!!
