ANY STUDENTS WHOSE FAMILY CONTRIBUTED TO THE STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON LAST WEEK, please collect your dishes, pans, food containers from the staff room, for return home. Many thanks!


Headline: Do you want to throw a pie in a teacher's face?

 If you want the opportunity to throw a pie at a teacher during the Spirit Assembly, come to the front foyer this week at lunch to buy a raffle ticket for 50 cents.  If your name is drawn, you will be the lucky person to throw a pie at a teacher during assembly.

Attention Grads:

     1. Grad Sleepover cancelled. Please see front office at break, lunch or after school for refunds.

     2. Grad Guests forms for dinner dance available mid-May.

     3. If you require transcripts for scholarship or entry applications, please be sure to give at least one day's notice

        for your request to front office.

New Chatterhigh competition is underway. Go to www.chatterhigh.com and start earning money for Parland and great prizes for yourself! Let's catch up...

SPRING FOOD DRIVE : Bring your charitable donation!

Over the next two weeks, peer helpers will be collecting items during Block C for the Sidney Lions Food Bank.  We will be coming around to collect on Tuesday and Thursday.  Please consider donating non-perishable food items to this worthy cause.  Cash works as well.  Thanks for your support for our community!

ATHLETICS, SPORTS TEAMS, TEAM MEETINGS

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SAANICH PANTHERS who won all three of their games in the Cowichan Tournament last weekend, and came home with the first place trophy! Simon James scored three goals in the first game, while Sasha James scored the winning goal. The second game went to a shoot-out where Simon James and Darryl Tom scored, and Darrian Sampson scored the winning goal. In the third game, the team won on a shoot-out with Elliott Edward-Charlie scoring the winning goal. Thank you Parkland for all your support, from the WSA'NA'C Nation.

SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS


 UVic Advisor is accepting appointments at Parkland on Wednesday, May 20th to help students with UVic timetables and registration. Sign up sheet is on Mr. Choo's office door.


North Saanich Volunteer Firefighters are sponsoring a $1500 bursary for a student that lives in North Saanich and contributes to the community.  Deadline is May 14th.  See Mr. Choo for application forms.


Rotary Clubs of Saskatoon and Rotaract: "Adventures in Technologyā€¯: tour Canada's research facilities and corporations for those interested in science, engineering or technology. Registration fee: $350 for food and social events, plus travel expenses to and from Saskatoon. Deadline: May 14.

GR 12's: if applying for Community Drug Education and Prevention award funded by Canada's Temperance Foundation, please see Mr. Choo. Deadline: May 15th.


Coast Capital Standing Tall award of $3500 is available for a student that has "faced significant hardships and not only rose up against the odds, but demonstrate a commitment to continue their education". 

Several other scholarships also available for students with a passion for second languages, music, teaching, land use, or agricultural resources.

Deadline:FRIDAY  May 15th.  Application forms available from Mr. Choo.  If you'd like an application form before Friday email a request to Mr. Choo.

CAREER CENTRE

The Vancouver Island Library is seeking a part time Library Page employee to work at the Sidney Library. Schedule Friday 3:30 TO 5:30 and Saturday 1:15 TO 5:15 P.M. Information posted on the Parkland Career Web Site, or see Ms. McNamee. Fabulous opportunity for a part time summer job!!

Sidney Elementary School is looking for student volunteers for their Spring Fling on Friday June 5th from 4;30-8:30.This is a great way for Parkland students to give back to their community and make connections! If you are a future LEADERSHIP student,  this is a great opportunity. Please see Ms. McNamee if interested.
