Thursday September 17,  2015 - WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2015!


SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, MEETINGS, EVENTS:


TODAY IS EARLY DISMISSAL FOR MEET THE TEACHER evening, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. School will be dismissed today @ 2:03 p.m. please note: School District 63 buses run at the usual times.


If any student is interested in taking Comparative Civilizations 12 at Parkland we will be offering this course after school on Fridays.  Please meet in room 200 on Friday September 18th for more information on this opportunity.


B.C. TRANSIT PASSES have arrived, + can be picked up at the front office during break, lunch or after school.


B.C. TRANSIT BUS PASSES: If you missed photo day, you can contact B. C. TRANSIT on your own to get photo done, and B.C. TRANSIT pass made. Call the Photo Pass Office: 250-995-5682.


ANY STUDENTS WHO LIKE A SCHOOL AGENDA, you can now purchase one at the front office, for $4.00 each.


Choir will run on Fridays, but is cancelled this week. First rehearsal will be Friday September 25th at 7am in music room.


LEADERSHIP meeting Thursday at lunch in room 112. All students who are registered for the course must attend.


All international student buddies MEETING TODAY - Thursday September 17 at lunch in room 106.


There will be a meeting for all students who are registered in the fall sailing program at lunch on Monday Sept 21 in room 112. Don't forget to bring your program forms and money! Please see Ms. Frith if you can't attend.

The Math Help Centre  will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after school until 4 p.m. for extra math help. Meet in room 105 for help with any math course you are taking this semester.


STUDENT WRITING CONTEST: Sidney and Peninsula Literary Festival student writing contest - DEADLINE September 23, 2015 - see posters on notice boards, and Mr. Mueller for information.

ART COMPETITION: National Gallery of Canada is running a contest. Enter by October 5, 2015. See: soyouwanttobeanartist.ca for details.

ATTENTION INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: watch for special announcements


ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: please pick up an important document from Ms. Jocelyne Pryer in the counselling area as soon as possible.


ALL INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: please bring in your Camp Qwanoes forms right away to Ms. Jocelyne Pryer, as space is limited, and you don't want to be disappointed if you're too late!


ATHLETICS, SPORTS TEAMS, TEAM MEETINGS: GET READY TO JOIN INTRAMURALS, TRY OUT FOR A TEAM!

Rowing season has started!  All students interested in rowing please see Mr. Hilton or Mrs. Stelck.

Notice to all Girls interested in playing VOLLEYBALLthis year. Practice starts TODAY Thursday September 17 from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m. Come in gym strip ready to play! See Ms. Thompson for more information. 

Students who are registered in YOGA Before School and missed class should come see Ms. Dibblee in the gym to get their course outlines.

ATTENTION all grade 9 and 10 boys. If you have not signed up for SOCCER yet you need to see Mr. Sutton .If we do not get at least 5 more players, there will not be a JUNIOR BOYS TEAM.

The first CROSS COUNTRY practice will be TODAY Thursday, September 17th from 2:15-3:15 (right after early dismissal). If you are interested in being part of the team, please meet on the track, ready to run. Runners of all abilities are welcome to come out and join the team!! See Ms. Dibblee in the gym for more information.

 

Are you a senior student who likes PE and currently has a spare block? Would you like to earn some extra credits? If so, the PE department is looking for student helpers in all block of the day. Please see Mr. Sutton, Ms. Dibblee or a counsellor for more information.

Interested in a career in Culinary Arts? Love FUN events? Local catering company is looking to hire Parkland students. Food Safe an asset. See Ms. McNamee on Thursday at break for details.


Interested in being a Dental Hygienist, Assistant or Dentist or an Office Administrator? mature and responsible grade 11 or 12 student needed to work in dentist office, filing and preparing charts. This would be 3 hours a day, 4 days a week, so you would need to have an open schedule and be very committed. See Ms. McNamee on Thursday with your resume!

The Victoria Flying Club is hosting a Career Fair and Open House on Saturday September 19 and we would love to have a number of local students in attendance.  There will be a variety of sectors from the aviation industry represented, and a number of opportunities for students to hear from and speak with industry leaders, experts, and pilots.
