SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS, MEETINGS, EVENTS: 

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR STAFF AND STUDENTS FOR THEIR INTEREST IN AND SUPPORT OF THE MARINE CAREER FAIR AND THE PARKLAND ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE YESTERDAY!

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR TIRELESS VOLUNTEER and LEADERSHIP STUDENTS WHO ASSISTED MORNING AND AFTERNOON WITH THE MARINE CAREER FAIR, and the OPEN HOUSE. Many of our exhibitors commented on how helpful and enthused our volunteers were, especially how they were made to feel welcome at Parkland. Each of you helped make the day a great one!

Congratulations to Parkland's Hearts of the Community Award Nominee's Taryn Bishop, Maya Goodsir, and Kennedy Guryn for their outstanding work as volunteers in our community! Way to go Panthers!

GLOBAL VILLAGE: you can volunteer as a Canadian buddy over Spring Break through Global Village, Victoria - assisting Japanese teens with their English, guiding new friends around Victoria for sightseeing, sports and culture. Gain valuable leadership skills and volunteer experience.

Five Parkland students attended a medical conference for five full days to learn about medicine and what being a doctor really entails, and had a great time! Congratulations to Brynne Cumming, Cooper Webb, Donald Stevens, Madisen Brailey, and Laura Fraser. In particular, congratulations to Maddy and Laura for tying for first place for best overall presentation on their project about prescription pill abuse. Well done Panthers!


North Saanich Middle School needs another family for Global Friendships Program to host two middle school-aged students from Japan over Easter long weekend. Students arrive March 24 until March 28 for a variety of school-based activities - funds available to offset homestay food costs. NATIONAL INDIGENOUS WRITING CONTEST: contest for Indigneous student writers to showcase their talents, & present their stories and retold legends. Rules and guidelines: see front office window; Deadline: MONDAY February 29, 2016.

ATTENTION ALL GRADS:  2016 GRAD TRANSITIONS BOOKLET is on the Parkland website. See: students / grad page / grad transitions. There are four buttons, or sections, to be completed.  READ INSTRUCTIONS carefully, and give full AND TYPED answers throughout. Each 2016 GRAD must complete BOOKLET AND 30 HR WORK EXPERIENCE and hand it in by the deadline of MARCH 11 - before GT interview will be scheduled in April. Sample questions for your interview preparation, and schedule for GT interviews TBA later. REMEMBER: YOUR DEADLINE IS FRIDAY MARCH 11!

Do you… Love the outdoors? Want to travel the world? Be a leader? Victoria School District and West Coast Adventure College are partnering together to offer an amazing 8 -week program for students interested in exploring the Adventure Tourism Industry. TALE Tourism And Leadership Exploration Program. Program Dates June 24th to August 19th. Work Experience with Local Companies. 8 High School Credits.

WESTPORT MARINA - PART-TIME FRONT DESK / RECEPTION JOB OPENING: part-time work now, and through the summer. Duties include: answering phones, making bookings for boatyard and moorage, handling accounts,  including visa and mastercard payments. Hours: Saturday and Sunday, from 8:30 to 5 p.m.; some Friday afternoons also possible. Through summer - Fridays and Mondays possible as regular addition to hours. Resumes can be emailed or dropped off at office from Sundays to Thursdays : SEE MS. MCNAMEE FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

Do you enjoy working with kids and have a special interest in recreation leadership? Course focused on leadership skill development, topics covered will include: motivating others, behaviour management, clear communication, decision making and maintaining positive attitudes towards challenges. In addition,  course will touch upon resume & cover letter writing, & interview preparation for future employment. Full attendance is required, and 15 hours of volunteer work must be completed within a Panorama program or recognized community equivalent. All participants will be asked to get a criminal record check completed prior to volunteering (free of charge).If you are interested in working at Panorama this is the course for YOU! Dates March 14-18 FROM  10 a.m.- 3 p.m. @   $115. See Ms. McNamee for more Details.

COAST CAPITAL SAVINGS YOUTH TEAM: APPLICATIONS CLOSE ON MARCH 31, 2016 - work part-time in a branch as a service representative; represent Coast Capital at community events; complete volunteer hours for literacy - and perhaps find yourself in a great job while going to college or university later. See Ms. McNamee ASAP to put in a great application, polish that resume!

MATH HELP CENTREThe Math Help Centre will be running this semester on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school until 4 p.m. Please come to room 105 for help with any math course that you are taking this semester.

MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: now open at lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz. thank you to Mrs. Beaucamp for making this happen!
