Huge Congratulations to the Parkland Mock Trial Team who made it into the Semi-Final round of the competition at the Courthouse this past Saturday on Law Day! As the only public school in this event, Parkland had 3 trials before Judges, and really competed well given the different witnesses and the unexpected turns each trial took! Anna Cragg won Best Witness for her role as the accused murderer, and in one of the trails, Katie Lee admonished the Judge at the end of the trial that he had just convicted her sister of 2nd degree murder! Congratulations to all the team members who represented Parkland so well at this event!

Congratulations to the Senior Girls Soccer team who battled back after some close loses on the first two days of the UVIC Tournament to have a very successful Saturday. The girls beat Claremont 2-0 with goals by Emma Dennis and Nicole Van Es, shut out by Jeanna Sheppard, and beat Spectrum 2-0 with goals by Emma Dennis and Sarah Gibson, shut out by Jeanna Sheppard, to win the Tier 2 'C' Championship. Congrats to all the team who played excellent this weekend and a big shout out to tourney team MVP Sarah Gibson.

The senior girls soccer team is reminded that we are leaving Tuesday April 19  at 2:00 for our journey to Royal Bay.


Indoor soccer schedule for this week:
Tuesday: Teachers vs Simon James' Team
Wednesday: Godwin's Team vs Simon Zhai's Team
Thursday: Yosef's Team vs Alex's Team

Teams need to be changed and ready to go at 11:40.  Intramural students need to be in the gym at the start of lunch making sure their jobs are getting done! All students need to check in with Ms. Large.

U16 Peninsula Girls Softball Team is looking for players born 2000 to 2002 who are athletic & have an interest in playing softball. Anyone interested  contact coach, Mark Simpson, at sliderman09@gmail.com. No softball experience necessary!


SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS: see Mr. Choo for further information

Mr. Choo will explain details and answer questions about over $40,000 worth of Parkland Scholarships at a lunchtime today - Tuesday, April 19th in room 104 , also known as Ms. Pryhitka's Chemistry classroom.  Plan to be in room 104 today at lunchtime to learn about over $50,000 worth of scholarships that are available only to Parkland students for your achievements in non-academic areas. Information will also be provided about many other scholarships available to you and other students of local school districts.


Parkland Community scholarships:  These scholarships available only to Canadian Parkland grads, ON NEW UPDATED APPLICATION FORM.  Strictly enforced deadline:  2 p.m.  Friday, April 29th.  Application forms only available by emailing Mr. Choo.


UFCW & OFG JOINT DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP: Overwaitea Food Groups and UFCW Local 1518 offer ten scholarships valued at $1000 each to students who have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school and community. Brookleigh Road, Elk Lake area:Yard Maintenance & Clean-up : This contractor will mentor the student they hire in preparation for construction related work. So if you are planning to take up a trade after high school this is perfect for you.

TRAINING AND COURSES COMING SOON! through YEP:  Food Safe, LEVEL 1 – April 22 - $50.00; from 9 to 5 p.m. - waitlist being taken now, @ Shoal Centre - bring your lunch. Food Safe is useful for anyone working in the food service, food retails, or food processing industries. You will learn how to handle food safely in order to prevent food from being contaminated. Food Safe is required for many entry level foods jobs - have it on your resume!

Gardening Basics – May 1, 8 & 15 - 3 Sundays in a row. Free - Sign up now - nearly full. MATH HELP CENTRE: running this semester on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school until 4 p.m. Please come to room 105 for help with any math course that you are taking this semester.

MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: now open at lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz. thank you to Mrs. Beaucamp for making this happen!
