Notice to all GRADS: Your completed grad packages - signed - are due in to front office FRIDAY APRIL 29!

An important reminder for grads--Friday April 29th is the deadline for Valedictorian and MC applications.  It is also the deadline for applying to be a musical performer at Grad.  Forms are available from Ms. Ford at the front desk.  Boys are encouraged to apply as we don't have too many applications from boys!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MEMBERS OF PARKLAND'S JUDO ACADEMY who had the most wins out of the six clubs competing in last weekend's Judo Tournament. Special congrats to all those GOLD winners! See website for great photo!

THURSDAY MAY 12 - EAGLE HEIGHTS AFRICA partners with Parkland Secondary School to present: 2016 SPRING GALA @ Mary Winspear, 6 to 9 p.m.. Proceeds benefit students in Kenya. $18 admission adults, $13 students includes silent auction, marketplace, student performances, music, delicious food, & more. Tickets at Mary Winspear box office.

Please spread the word--The grad parents are having a fundraising event on Friday May 13th at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre from 6:30-8:30pm.  Entrance is $15 which gets you a BBQ Beef Bun and Beverage and access to the Silent Auction.  Please come and support our grads.  Students can also attend, SILENT BY THE SEA.

U16 Peninsula Girls Softball Team is looking for players born 2000 to 2002 who are athletic & have an interest in playing softball. Anyone interested  contact coach, Mark Simpson, at sliderman09@gmail.com. No softball experience necessary!


SCHOLARSHIPS, AWARDS AND COMPETITIONS: see Mr. Choo for further information


Friday 2 pm is the deadline for over 50 scholarships available only to Parkland students.  As of this morning, Mr. Choo has received 3 applications.  Even if you're planning a "gap year", see Mr. Choo for instructions on how to win a scholarship worth up to $1500 for your involvement in non-academic interests.  There are also three scholarships available exclusively for Parkland students planning to train to be teachers.


Do you plan to attend the University of Toronto?  Do you have questions about application and programs? There's a fantastic opportunity open to grade 9,10,11, and 12 students to meet with an advisor from the University of Toronto next Thursday night, May 5th from 7 to 8 at St Michael's University School.  Registration begins at 6:30. Contact Mr. Choo for more info.
 

The deadline for over 50 Parkland scholarships is this Friday and Mr. Choo has received a grand total of two, yes two, applications.  This is the easiest opportunity you'll likely ever have to win a scholarship of up to $1500 for your participation in community service or non-academic courses.  All you athletes, musicians, actors, artists, speakers of indigenous and international languages, and trades and applied skills students should see Mr. Choo for an application and be ready to hand it back in by the end of school this Friday.  Up to $1500 could be yours as easy as composing one paragraph about how wonderful you are.


Parkland Community scholarships:  These scholarships available only to Canadian Parkland grads, ON NEW UPDATED APPLICATION FORM.  Strictly enforced deadline:  2 p.m.  Friday, April 29th.  Application forms only available by emailing Mr. Choo.


UFCW & OFG JOINT DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP: Overwaitea Foods & UFCW Local 1518 offer ten scholarships valued at $1000 to students who have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school and community. DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2016.


BEACON COMMUNITY SERVICES SCHOLARSHIPS: Up to 4 awards of $1500 each. For graduating students who exemplify volunteerism or community service. See Mr. Choo or bulletin board for details. DEADLINE: May 1, 2016.


Important announcement to all potential UVic students.  Registration 101 is not a course & you do not have to sign up. Registration 101 is presentation by UVic advisors on Tuesday, May 3rd at Parkland in room 210.   UVic advisors will talk about timetabling & show you how to register for classes. Registration 101 will be in room 210 so that you can eat your lunch during the presentation & remain during block C to ask questions. That's Tuesday, May 3rd.

PENINSULA COUNTRY MARKET - if you like the outdoors, live music and farm fresh products, this opportunity is for you. $10.50 per hours, two shifts - setup and tear down each week; and greetings ambassador, face painting. See Ms. McNamee.


Ruby Red Farms is hiring staff for blueberry packing line. Preference given to candidates looking for full time work; part-timers commit to specific days per week; Deep Cove North Saanich. Starts early July, for 7-8 weeks. Rate of pay is $11.00 per hour. Please apply only if you are able to work for the full duration of the season. See Ms.McNamee.


CAMOSUN COLLEGE SPORTS AND EXERCISE EDUCATION PROGRAMS - holds monthly information sessions, third Thursday of each month, from 6 to 7 p.m. Upcoming: May 19, 2016.

Gardening Basics – May 1, 8 & 15 - 3 Sundays in a row. Free - Sign up now - nearly full. Takes place @ Sluggett House Garden, Brentwood Bay.  Classes covering topics such as: soil preparation, planting seeds and plants, plant care, weeding, pruning, and safe use and care of tools. MEZZANINE IN GYM AREA: now open at lunch, Monday to Thursday, for P.E. make-ups and for students to work out. Students must be in full PE strip and should enter through the back door of the mezz. thank you to Mrs. Beaucamp for making this happen!
