Thanks to all the staff and students who assisted and attended the B.C.  Colleges and Universities night hosted by Parkland last night. Special thanks to the poster makers, whose great work was remarked on, and much appreciated! And thanks to Mr. Choo, for pulling everyone together!

METAL RECYCLING BINS HAVE ARRIVED: Please place metals for recycling IN THE BIN, back teacher parking lot near the roadway.
Money raised will go to support sports teams and the hockey program. Thanks in advance for your support and junk metal! Bin will be on site for TWO WEEKS ONLY -  to NOVEMBER 10, 2016.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SENIOR BOYS SOCCER TEAM as they defeated Vic High 5 to 2. Shu scored 2 goal, Abraao one, and Ben netted another 2. The boys are in the Playoffs next Tuesday.

MONDAY OCTOBER 31 - PARKLAND hosts 76 JAPANESE STUDENTS and their chaperones to visit for the day.
Japanese visitors attend regular classes with Parkland Musical Theatre buddies, watch and participate in Halloween activities, visitors set up games in gym for Parkland students to enjoy. Thank you, all students and staff, for making our visitors WELCOME!

EAGLE HEIGHTS AFRICA FUNDRAISER - major fundraiser for support of Eagle Heights School in Africa, @ Parkland Secondary, Thursday November 3, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Music, Parkland Jazz Band, Parkland Dancers, Marimba Band. Adult tickets $15, Students $10 for sale at Parkland office.

Students, please don't forget to sell your coupon books to raise money for Parkland school.  Our goal is to have each student sell at least one coupon book.  Parent Christine Bennett is in the front foyer every day after school to take your payments or give you additional books.  Payments due by November 4th.

ODD FELLOWS UNION OF VICTORIA SPEECH COMPETITION: applicants have opportunity to attend a two week, all expenses paid pilgrimage to the United Nations in New York, and other historic destinations including Ottawa, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Competition is based on 3 minute prepared speech, with topic: Is the United Nations obsolete? See your English teacher if you are interested in this wonderful challenge!

STUDENT BUS CARDS HAVE  ARRIVED, AND WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TODAY AT LUNCH OR BREAK - FROM the front OFFICE.

SALTS REGISTRATION FOR SUMMER 2017 - SAIL AND LIFE TRAINING SOCIETY - registration starts SATURDAY OCTOBER 29 for one week trips on Victoria's tall ships - Pacific Swift or Pacific Grace. See website for information.

MINDFULNESS GROUP is meeting on Monday's and Friday's at lunch in the upper conference room. Come and take a break from your busy day while learning techniques to calm your mind and body. All students and staff are welcome!

JUNIOR BOYS BASKETBALL TRY-OUTS CANCELLED FOR TODAY, and will be rescheduled next week. Stay tuned for info!

ATTENTION ALL SENIOR AND JUNIOR GIRLS - FIRST BASKETBALL TRY-OUT IS THIS SUNDAY OCTOBER 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Parkland Gym. Please attend if you are interested in playing basketball this year!

Congratulations to the small but mighty Parkland Cross Country team for an excellent showing at Islands. Team members Patricia Alonso and Marta Moreno finished their season with strong races, and Arianne Stevenson (16th in Senior Girls race), and Cooper Langard (10th in Junior Boys Race) advanced to Provincials next week in Kelowna.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP:
1. SIDNEY LITERARY FESTIVAL READING - calling all bookworms and future authors  - October 28  reading at Shoal Centre, 6:30 to 8:30 - register new members, welcome guests, and support the coffee station.

2. OCTOBER 31 - SECOND ANNUAL TREAT STREET - volunteers needed 4 to 6 p.m.; dress up in costume and give away candy at Treat Stations, downtown Sidney. Also, volunteers for dog costume contest at Beacon Park from 4 to 6 p.m.

3. NOVEMBER 12 FROM 10 A.M. TO 2 P.M. - SHOAL CENTER CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR - volunteers needed to help serve coffee and cookies, and promote YEP PROGRAMS to visitors.

4. Join the volunteer student planning group for SPRING YOUTH JOB FAIR: Volunteer to plan SPRING YOUTH JOB FAIR - gain experience in public relations, networking, promotion, event planning. See Ms. McNamee for further details.
