BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Parkland Senior Girls Basketball team, which played in the largest tournament in B.C. last weekend. Parkland finished third overall, after winning one forfeit, losing one game, and winning their final two games, the last game beating Stelly's . High scorers in each game were Lauren Fanelli, Sarah Gibson, and Emma Dennis. Team success was due to the wonderful efforts of everyone, but Miel Guerra Alva, Jamie Cocu and Caitlin Gault played their best efforts this year, and Millanne Espanosa and Vicky Jia played very well in their first games as seniors.  For the full article on this tournament, see printed version of the daily news.

A big congratulations to the Parkland Senior girls basketball team. The girls played in the largest tournament in BC on the weekend. The Vancouver Island tournament has 32 senior girl teams and 16 junior teams playing all over the city. The girls won their first game by forfeit as Wellington did not make it down because of the weather. The second game was against a provincially ranked team Southridge from Vanccouver . the girls played very hard and came out winners Lauren Fanelli led the team with 36 points Sarah Gibson had over 20 points and Emma Dennis led the team with 14 rebounds . Saturday morning the girls played Harry Ainslay from Edmonton. The game went back and forth but the team from Edmonton came out ahead in the end. Lauren Fanelli led the team again with 30 points. Sarah had 24 Emma Dennis led the team again with 12 rebounds and had 9 points. We played Stelly's in our last game for third or fourth. Playing their third game in less than 24 hours the girls were tired but all of them were very focused on who their opponent was and were very motivated to have a good result. In the end the girls wound up beating Stelly.s 61-40 and in doing so finished 3rd in the xmas tournament. Lauren Sarah and Emma led the team in scoring again but the team success was a team effort. Miel Guerrera Alva Jamie Cocu Caitlin Gault played their best basketball and without them the team would not have had the succes it had on the weekend. Millanne Espanosa and Vicky Jia both played in their first games as seniors and played very well.
