WEDNESDAY APRIL 19  2017: SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

The chess club is starting up again! Meet on Thursdays at lunch in the counselling area.

Any students interested in playing music at the grad ceremony at UVic -- applications were due on April 13th.  If you want to be considered for this and did not get your application in on time, please see Ms. Chicanot asap.

Wednesday April 19th will be the first practice for Parkland Ultimate Frisbee. Everyone welcome! Boys and Girls! Grades 9-12! No experience necessary! Bring cleats if you have them. Meet at 3:15 on the upper field ready to have an awesome time!

SCHOLARSHIPS NOTICES AND GRAD 2017 NOTICES:

 4 AWARDS of $1,500 available - DEADLINE: MAY 1, 2017. See Mr. Choo, and/GRAD BOARD for application details .

Three scholarships with deadlines approaching soon:
1. A Brand new Union Club $5000 Service Scholarship due April 30.
 2. North Saanich Volunteer Firefighters' community service  bursary of up to $1500 due May 11.
 3. Rotary Club of Sidney by the Sea $1000 "Service above Self" scholarship due May 15.  Please note that, even if you have applied for this scholarship in the Parkland Scholarship package, you will have to re-apply because the process has just been changed.

CAREERS AT SEA - NEW PROGRAM BEING OFFERED and partially subsidized BY SD 63, WESTERN MARINE INSTITUTE, AND B.C. FERRIES: $3600 worth of training certification for $800 for our students - an amazing opportunity! Summer learning opportunity; student will earn 8 credits, 160 hours of certification training, and up to 5 days employments skills training, plus 90 work experience hours with B.C. FERRIES. c. MONDAY MAY 8 - from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. - ALERT EMERGENCY FIRST-AID with CPR - hands-on first aid training. See Ms. McNamee for registration information.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP:

SIDNEY ELEMENTARY SPRING FLING: local elementary students need volunteer help at their SPRING FAIR. SIDNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - Friday May 26th, from 5 to 8 p.m. See Ms. McNamee to sign up!

SIDNEY LITERARY FESTIVAL looking for volunteers with creative writing skills, or editing skills, to adjudicate the writing contest submissions for festival. See Ms. McNamee for further information.


AFTER SCHOOL TUTORIAL:   TUTORIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL - except Mondays - TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL, in the Learning Centre Room 204.


MATH HELP CENTRE:
Monday and Wednesday after school: 3 to 4 p.m., Rm 201; and Thursday morning before school - 7:15 to 8:15 in Rm 112.


ENGLISH HELP CENTRE:   Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at lunch in the Learning Centre (room 204), staffed by a retired English teacher. Please see Ms. Chicanot if you have any questions about this.


 SIDES HELP CENTRE: has started on Tuesday and Thursdays after school in the career centre. Come and get help with any SIDES course. See Ms. Anderson in the counselling office if you have questions.

CULTURAL ROOM TUTORING IS NOW AVAILABLE: Every day after school from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., in the CULTURAL ROOM. Please see Ms. Mack for assistance with assignments, studying for tests, or other tutoring needs.

JAZZ BAND - Monday and Wednesday; 7 a.m.; CONCERT BAND - Tuesday and Thursday, 7 a.m.; CHOIR - Friday, 7 a.m. ALL REHEARSALS TAKE PLACE IN THE MUSIC ROOM.
