SPECIAL NOTICE TO ALL 2017 GRADS: MASTER SPREADSHEET FOR GRADUATION QUALIFICATION IS NOW POSTED ON GRAD BOARD:
Check your status - X means complete; BLANK means TO BE DONE OR COMPLETED - you must see Ms. Gribling in the front office ASAP.  If you intend to graduate, please ensure everything is done! CHECK THE BOARD - any questions, see Ms. Gribling.

FRIDAY MAY 26 - MANDATORY GRAD ASSEMBLY , Block C.
A reminder to all grads that there will be an important assembly in C block on Friday of this week (May 26).  Grads with spares are also required to attend.  Grads will be voting on who they would like to represent them as valedictorian and MCs for the grad ceremony.


ALL GRADS: PLEASE call UVic to reserve your ceremony tickets. Many of you have not yet done so yet and THIS WEEK extra tickets will be available to everyone. Don't miss out, remind your parents to call today. Call: UVIC TICKET OFFICE: 250 - 721 - 8480 to reserve! 

FINAL REMINDER TO ALL GRADS WHO HAVE NOT YET RETURNED  GRAD PACKAGES: you are overdue! Please return to front office ASAP so that plans and reservations and t-shirts and food orders can be made on your behalf!

ALL POTENTIAL 2017 GRADS: If you have not COMPLETELY FINALIZED ALL YOUR GRAD TRANSITIONS OR WORK EXPERIENCE PAPERWORK, you are not yet in a position to grad. See Mr. Buckham, Ms. Gribling, or Ms. McNamee with your completed work ASAP.

FRIDAY JUNE 2 - MANDATORY ATTENDANCE ALL GRADS - GRAD REHEARSAL IN GYM, BLOCK D.

ALL STUDENTS: every day after school math help is available in room 201 ( across from the fishbowl lab).  If you missed math class due to illness or need some tutorial help you are welcome to attend.  Don't forget--every day after school there is math help available!


Any girls interesting in playing basketball next year, please see Ms. Gribling in the front office.


YOUTH PHILANTHROPY AWARDS for NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY DAY presentation: Nominations are accepted until May 26, 2017  in the categories: Generosity of Spirit, Outstanding Volunteer, Outstanding Service Club, Corporate Responsibility, Youth in Philanthropy (elementary); Youth in Philanthropy (secondary). SATURDAY JUNE 3 - SIDNEY ALL CARE ACCESS AWARENESS IN SIDNEY - SCOOTER RODEO! Prize for best dressed scooter; free event for all ages that raises awareness about disability, access ability and inclusion in our community. SCHOLARSHIPS & GRAD 2017 NOTICES: see notice boards & Mr. Choo for details of scholarships, grants, deadlines.

There are still some scholarships available that are exclusive to Parkland students. Contact Mr. Choo if you're interested in the $1500 United Peninsula Lodge #24 Freemason Scholarship, the $1000 Sidney Rotary Scholarship or the $500 Conservative Party Civic Engagement Scholarship.  Deadlines are end of May so apply soon.

Freemasons' United Peninsula Lodge #24 have generously increased scholarship and extended deadline:  Any Parkland student with a history of community engagement, academic success and  ambition to proceed to Canadian college or university may apply.  Financial need considered. Two $1000 scholarships - Deadline: May 31st.  Students who have already applied do not need to re-apply.  Contact Mr. Choo for details.


Good news for our fine arts students: $750 Diane Cross Award for the Arts deadline postponed to June 1st.  Email or meet Mr. Choo.

A new $2000 scholarship in memory of Constable Sarah Beckett has been established to award a student entering the field of law enforcement.  Deadline is July 1st.  Applicant must be a Canadian Citizen or permanent resident.  Please contact Mr. Choo for details.

Congratulations to the Parkland Track and Field Team! Amazing results last week at the Island Championships! Our Senior Team finished THIRD in the points, behind Oak Bay and Ballenas - wonderful results for our athletes, and our school! Super Proud of our Small but Strong Team.
5 Athletes - and maybe 7 athletes - qualified for the B.C.'s  -  our Relay team may yet be qualified too!

LONG TERM BABYSITTING JOB AVAILABLE, SOME FLEXIBILITY NEEDED: (1) starting next week, from 5 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., student with driver's license - need mature student; for work until the end of June. (2) summer job - some extra summer babysitting, in Sidney, 3rd Street. day time, could be younger teen; both $15 per hour. See Ms. McNamee for info.

YEP TRAINING and COURSES - OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP
a. SATURDAY MAY  27 - FROM 1 P.M. TO 4 P.M. - GARDENING BASICS COURSE - soil prep, planting,  plant care, weeding, pruning, safe tool use. See Ms. McNamee for details.

b. PROFESSIONAL FACE PAINTING WORKSHOP - FREE - NEW DATE - Saturday MAY 27 from 11 to 1 p.m., @ Shoal Centre.

c. FREE  RETAIL TRAINING: AVAILABLE IN SIDNEY, AND ONE OPENING IN BRENTWOOD BAY, JUNE AND JULY - one day a week for four weeks - you'll learn how to operate a cash register and point-of-sale machine. Strengthen your customer service skills and learn how to be safe in the workplace. An excellent way to gain employability skills - see Ms. McNamee FRIDAY for registration details.

HERITAGE ACRES LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE SUMMER - clearing and cleaning, painting, sweeping, greeting the public, gardening, etc., many choices to lend a hand! See Ms. McNamee ASAP!

1. SIDNEY ELEMENTARY SPRING FLING: Friday May 26th, from 5 to 8 p.m. Food, games, raffle draw, cake walk, dunk tank, bouncy castle, face painting! See Ms. McNamee to sign up.
2. INSTITUTE OF OCEAN SCIENCES is holding a four day OPEN HOUSE, from June 1 to 4 inclusive. Please see Ms. McNamee for information, and to sign up for volunteer hours!
3. KELSET SPRING FAIR @ KELSET ELEMENTARY - JUNE 2 FROM 5 TO 8 P.M. - See Ms. McNamee for further details, and sign-up.
4. BRENTWOOD FESTIVAL @ PIONEER PARK - Saturday June 3, from 9 to 3 p.m. - crafting and children's face painting. See Ms. Mc.

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORIAL:   EVERY DAY AFTER SCHOOL - except Mondays - TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AFTER SCHOOL, in the Learning Centre Room 204.
MATH HELP CENTRE:
Monday and Wednesday after school: 3 to 4 p.m., Rm 201; and Thursday morning before school - 7:15 to 8:15 in Rm 112.

ENGLISH HELP CENTRE:   Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at lunch in the Learning Centre (room 204), staffed by a retired English teacher. Please see Ms. Chicanot if you have any questions about this.

SIDES HELP CENTRE: has started on Tuesday and Thursdays after school in the career centre. Come and get help with any SIDES course. See Ms. Anderson in the counselling office if you have questions.
CULTURAL ROOM TUTORING IS NOW AVAILABLE: Every day after school from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., in the CULTURAL ROOM. Please see Ms. Mack for assistance with assignments, studying for tests, or other tutoring needs.
