GRADE 12 : THURSDAY OCTOBER 5 FROM 1:30 TO 3 P.M. - CUE - CANADIAN UNIVERSITIES EVENT at Parkland! More than 40 universities & colleges HERE - information, displays, application requirements, scholarships, student residences availability. Attend and explore some future education options! INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:  Students interested in Whistler Ski Trip - Deadline is TODAY Thursday October 5. See Ms. McRae.

LEADERSHIP STUDENTS: LEADERSHIP TODAY @ lunch, in the Theatre!

Parkland Rowers competed at Elk Lake this past weekend.  Congratulations to the entire rowing team for the healthy competition.  A special mention for Ben Sammons who won the senior mens single event, Meredith Bonneau who came 2nd in the senior womens single.  Anna Hulbert, Beatriz Morias, Alina Hense and Kelsie Wolfe also won the Senior Novice Women's Quad Skills Event.

TOMORROW - FRIDAY OCTOBER 6 IS SPIRIT DAY! Wear your Parkland clothes or Parkland colours (black & blue).

MONDAY OCTOBER 9 - NO SCHOOL - THANKSGIVING DAY!

ALL STUDENT DRIVERS: If you have not yet registered your vehicle with the forms available from the front office, and placed your Parkland decal on the back of your rearview mirror, please do so ASAP to keep your parking privileges.

Are you an artist, a wordsmith or a filmmaker? Essays, poems, colour and black and white posters welcome. Create ART OR LITERATURE about Remembrance Day, what it means to you and Canada. Deadline: Nov 15, 2017; entry forms available front office.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND GRAD INFORMATION:

GRADE 12 'S: LORAN scholarship - worth over $100,000 - now accepting applications.  To have application sponsored by Parkland, deadline is October 18th.  If applying on your own, deadline:  October 25th.  Email Mr. Choo for details.


GRADE 12 'S: University of Toronto NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP  accepting applications. This scholarship fully covers tuition & expenses for four years of undergrad study at U of T. Deadline: Nov 3, 2017. Email Mr. Choo or Ms. Rioux for details.

GRADE TWELVE STUDENTS: If you would like to receive emails about scholarships, post secondary application and admission information, please EMAIL Mr. Choo WITH YOUR RETURN EMAIL to be added to his contact list.  Some major scholarships will be available very soon.

IMAGINING POSSIBILITIES CONFERENCE - FREE WORKSHOP AND EXHIBIT FOR YOUNG WOMEN, ages 15 and up. ALL DAY, THURSDAY OCTOBER 26, from 9 to 2:20 p.m. See Ms. McNamee if you are interested in attending. THIS EVENT IS AMAZING!

VOLUNTEERS WANTED:

(1) SPECIAL OLYMPICS BOWLING: @ Miracle Lanes in Sidney - serve as head coach of 5 pin bowling program, 5 to 6:30 p.m. every Thursday.

(2) FACE PAINTING SUNDAY OCTOBER 22 AT HALLOWEEN PUMPKIN CARVING EVENT. See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(3) HOMEWORK CLUB: Wednesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. @ Balmoral and Quadra for Inter-Cultural Association of Victoria. See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(4) If you enjoy working with children and have a talent for Face Painting, Sidney event Sunday October 22 from 11 to 2 at Sidney Band Shell, Pumpkin Carving event, needs you! See Ms. McNamee to sign up.

(5) ARTS REACH YOUTH COUNCIL seeking youth volunteers for 4 hours per month at community events. The WORKSHOP AND TEACHING experience, AS WELL AS thank you gifts for this volunteer position are extraordinary - see posters on Career Centre boards, and Ms. McNamee to sign up!


FOOD SAFE LEVEL 1 -  OCTOBER 20 - 8:30 to 4:30; @ SHOAL CENTRE; cost is $50 ( on non-instructional day). This is a great one to attend. Course is filling up fast, so see Ms. McNamee ASAP!

ALERT FIRST AID NOVEMBER 4 - all day @ Shoal Centre; cost is $50.00. See Ms. McNamee to register, and get start times!

BASICS OF BANKING & FINANCE: OCTOBER 28, FROM 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. @ Shoal Centre. BUDGETING AND BASIC BANKING.

(1) Moving two cords of wood - 3 to 4 hours @ $15 per hour.

(2) General yard clean-up @ $15 per hour, 3 hours work.

(3) WORK WITH SENIOR; Resthaven Drive - tidy and sort, recycling, odd jobs. Two hours a week, @ $15.00 per hour.


TUTORIALS AND COURSEWORK ASSISTANCE:

TUTORIALS IN LEARNING CENTRE: every day after school. Wednesday & Friday are good for completing longer tests & assignments.

LEARNING COMMONS SUPPORT: Monday, Tuesday & Thursday day after school until 3:40 p.m., Wednesday & Friday until 3:35 p.m.
 ELL TUTOR also available at these times.

CULTURAL ROOM TUTORING NOW AVAILABLE: Wednesdays and Fridays after school
