ALL SENIOR AND JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL PLAYERS: There is a meeting today MONDAY OCTOBER 23 at lunch in the gym for all girls interested in playing basketball this year.

Monday, Oct 23rd is DROP EVERYTHING AND READ DAY!  We are hoping all Parkland students can make a point of coming down to the Library Learning Commons to pick out a book!  We have lots of new books & recommended reading, so just drop by!

BE MY BOO CANDYGRAMS WILL BE SOLD FOR HALLOWEEN STARTING Monday October 23 to Friday October 27. "BE MY BOO" candygrams will be on sale BY LEADERSHIP STUDENTS during lunch in the front foyer throughout the week.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOME PRE-HALLOWEEN FUN AND SOMETHING A BIT SCARY TO SHARE WITH FRIENDS? Claremont is hosting "scream Fest" parties for high school age students. They run from 6:30 to 10 p.m. this Thursday and Friday evening - October 26 and 27. Tickets are: $10. See Ms. Elm for further information.


PENINSULA YOUTH HEALTH CLINIC hours changed to 5 to 7 p.m., and clinic is open THURSDAY NIGHTS @ Ocean Pier Medical Clinic.

The next Mandarin 12 Challenge will be held on Monday, November 6 at 4 p.m. at SIDES.  The exam will cost $150.  Please see Mrs. McRae for the application form.    Please check that the universities you are applying to will accept a mark from a challenge course.


MONDAY NOVEMBER 6, 2017: for grad 2018, and all other interested parents - PARENTS AS CAREER COACHES - FREE SEMINAR FOR PARENTS - from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., @ Stelly's Secondary School:  Capilano University Instructor Marion Haythorne will be presenting workshop on how to guide your high school grad through the many post-secondary choices available. Become confident in helping your students discover their values, interested and skills, and match them to potential education and career pathways.

   
Are you an artist, wordsmith or filmmaker? Essays, poems, posters welcome. Create ART OR LITERATURE about Remembrance Day, what it means to you and Canada. Deadline: Nov 15, 2017; entry forms available front office.

SCHOLARSHIPS, BURSARIES AND GRAD INFORMATION:
GRADE 12 'S: LORAN scholarship - worth over $100,000 - now accepting applications.  To have application sponsored by Parkland, deadline is October 18th.  If applying on your own, deadline:  October 25th.  Email Mr. Choo for details.


GRADE 12 'S: U of Toronto NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP  accepting applications. This scholarship fully covers tuition & expenses for four years of undergrad study at U of T. Deadline: Nov 3, 2017. Email Mr. Choo or Ms. Rioux for details.

GRADE TWELVE STUDENTS: to receive emails about scholarships, post secondary application and admission information, please EMAIL Mr. Choo WITH YOUR RETURN EMAIL to be added to his contact list.  Some major scholarships will be available very soon.

JR BOYS BASKETBALL TRYOUTS:
"Thank you to all of the Junior Boys who attended the first JR BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM try-out last Friday!  This week, we will have our final two try-out sessions on TUESDAY, OCT 24th from 5 TO --6:45 p.m. and on FRIDAY, OCT 27th from 2:15 to 4:00 p.m. Please ensure that you show up at least 15 min early for each try-out.  If you can not make one or both of the try-out sessions this week, please let Mr. Buckham know ASAP."

PARKLAND SWIM TEAM competed at the 2017 BCSS Vancouver Island Zone Swim Meet in Nanaimo this part weekend, and 4 of our swimmers qualified for Provincials in November! Our 4 qualifying Panthers are: Nick Lukie, Brendon Cripps, Torge Von der Geest, and Saki Takahashi. Everyone worked very hard all through, and represented Parkland very well with their effort, responsibility, and good sportsmanship! Way to go, Panthers!
