Hello Parkland families and community

I hope that you have all had a restful and fun summer and that you are looking forward to returning to school in a little over a week.  Time sure does fly!

I would like to formally welcome Mr. Jason Earnshaw--our new Vice Principal.  He is very excited to join the Parkland team. Mr. Earnshaw comes to us with a strong background in counselling, athletics, and has most recently been the Vice Principal of the Saanich International Student Program.  We are very lucky to have him join our team.

I'm looking forward to welcoming all students back to school and am particularly eager to launch year two of the International Baccalaureate program here at Parkland with our second cohort of students.  The IB diploma program is one of a number of interesting offerings that are available at Parkland.  Parkland has three thriving academies (Sailing, Hockey, Judo), an exciting Marine Program, dynamic arts and music opportunities, a specialty in computer technology, a wide variety of trades and career offerings as well as numerous sports and athletics opportunities.

Parkland students would have received preliminary timetables in June.  A few changes were made to the master timetable over the summer which will affect some students' individual timetables.  Students will all receive a new copy of their schedule on the first day of school (Sept 3rd for grade 9s and Sept 4th for grades 10-12).  If any student wishes to consider a change to their timetable Ms. Anderson is available on Monday August 26th (9am--2pm) and on Tuesday August 27th (9am--3pm).  Please email her directly for an appointment (wanderson@saanichschools.ca).  Both Mr. Choo and Ms. Anderson will be available for counselling appointments once school has started.

Please mark your calendars--Thursday September 12th is Meet the Teacher evening from 5:30-7:30pm.  This will be followed by a PAC meeting at 7:30 in the Learning Commons and also by an IB parent meeting in the theatre at 7:30.  We look forward to meeting all our new and returning parents.

One good way to stay informed with what is happening at Parkland is to subscribe to Parkland forums. By doing so you will receive email notifications regarding Parkland events and news. If you haven't already, you can subscribe to our forums by going to the Parkland website and on the left hand side you will see a heading entitled "Forum Subscriptions". Click there and follow the prompts.
Here's to the start of another great year!

Sincerely,
Lizanne Chicanot
