PARKLAND DAILY NEWS:  Thursday December 5, 2019 - be safe and have fun at WINTER SEMI-FORMAL TONIGHT!

***CHRISTMAS CAFE in Room 112 @ lunch on Friday December to buy a fresh crepe and hot chocolate in support of the Food Bank. Crepes with nutella will be $2 each. See you there!


***PARKLAND CANNED FOOD DRIVE STARTS THIS WEEK, FOR SIDNEY LIONS FOOD BANK: now until December 20. Donations of either canned goods or cash can be brought to your block C classes over the next three weeks. Prizes will be awarded to the top class in each grade, and a Pizza lunch will be provided for the top class in the whole school! Let's make this year the BEST EVER!


*** INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: SIDES will be offering a challenge exam for Mandarin 12 on FRIDAY, December 6th, at 4 p.m., for a cost of $150 dollars. Please see Ms. McKinney for the application form.


*** ALL STUDENTS: PLEASE CHECK THE LOST & FOUND IN front foyer for any lost clothing or school items. The rack and bins will be

donated to charity by mid-December.

CONGRATS TO THE PARKLAND CROSS COUNTRY TEAM on a successful season and a big thank you to our community coach Manu Courtois! Season highlights include: all Parkland runners placing in the top 10 at the final league race at Beaver Lake; 3 students racing at Islands; and Anna Eigler qualifying and representing Parkland at Provincials! Well done team!

YEP RETAIL TRAINING: courses available in Brentwood Bay and Sidney starting in January. 4 Sundays, January 5 to 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cash register, cash count, customer service, displays, inventory, pricing, opening and closing procedures. Great prep for new job!


TSUKINO-CON CONVENTION- takes place February 21 to 23, 2020 @ UVIC - get your name in to volunteer early! Annual anime, games, and Japanese culture convention, supports a variety of local charities. Registration, technicians, concession volunteers needed. See Ms. McNamee for volunteer registration, more information.

ARBUTUS GROVE NURSERY: 5 students needed to work Mondays and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. to help package trees for shipment. Starting wage increased to $14.60 per hour!

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A FIRST RESPONDER? JDF FIRE / RESCUE CADET CAMP - spring break, March 16 to 21, 2020 - Metchosin. Basic elements of firefighting, search and rescue, medical response, technical rescue. Emphasis on team work, physical fitness, community service. Applications must be submitted by: December 18, 2019. See Ms. McNamee ASAP!


STAC: SKILLS TRAINING APPRENTICESHIP CARPENTRY and TEX: TRADE SAMPLER PROGRAM - two new programs to explore trades; through SD63 District  - starting February 2020. See Ms. McNamee for details on making an application!
