***BAMFIELD FIELD TRIP: Are you passionate about Marine Biology? Come to the beautiful west coast Bamfield marine research station for 4 days for the field trip of a lifetime and work with professional marine biologiests. February 28 to March 2. See Ms. Stinson for details.


PARKLAND SECONDARY appreciates the honesty and consideration of one student and one staff member who each turned in a quantity of "FOUND CASH" during the month of November. We are also most appreciative of all those who turn in found phones, bus passes, books, binders, clothing, lunch bags, water bottles - EACH AND EVERY DAY! Come to front office if you have mislaid or lost something - it might already be found!

***UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES OF B.C. @ PARKLAND: Tuesday January 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come out and explore your options for college and university in your home province! Graduating students as well as grades 10 and 11 are welcome to attend, to start informing themselves about Parkland courses and grades that are pre-requisites for post-secondary study. For grade 12's, it's a great opportunity for our PSI students to ask questions about admission, programs, and scholarships. As of this date, presenters include:

CAMOSUN COLLEGE, DOUGLAS COLLEGE, ROYAL ROADS UNIVERSITY, SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY, UVIC, VANCOUVER ISLAND UNIVERSITY. See you there!


***The deadline for the Freemason Essay contest is Tuesday, January 21 @ 3:30 p.m. Please submit printed and electronic copies to Mr. Choo by the deadline. The topic is"Civility as Seen Through the Eyes of a Vancouver Island Senior Secondary Student". Grade 11 and 12 students are eligible. Parkland has been allocated two prizes of $625 for the recipients to use at their discretion. Contact Mr. Choo for details. 


*** $100,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship - an entrance scholarship, worth up to $100,000, for student studying Science, Technology, Engineering or Math. Deadline for applying to be considered as Parkland's nominee: Friday January 17, 2020.

*** $40,000 Cmolik Foundation Scholarship: Cmolik Foundation will provide up to $40,000 to a youth who has experience financial need and faced adversity in their life. Deadline for applying to be selected as Parkland's single nominee is Friday, January 31st. Please contact Mr. Choo for details. The application will take some time to complete, so don't procrastinate!

*** STUDENT VOLUNTEERS wanted at Saanich Peninsula Hospital - meal time hosts - positions for ten youth in the Extended Care Unit as weekend meal time hosts. A great opportunity for youth interested in pursuing a career in health care, who are passionate about supporting our local elder populations. See Ms. McNamee or Ms. Beaucamp for further information. YEP RETAIL TRAINING: courses available in Brentwood Bay and Sidney starting in January. 4 Sundays, January 5 to 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cash register, cash count, customer service, displays, inventory, pricing, opening and closing procedures. Great prep for new job!


TSUKINO-CON CONVENTION- takes place February 21 to 23, 2020 @ UVIC - get your name in to volunteer early! Annual anime, games, and Japanese culture convention, supports a variety of local charities.
