Good evening Parkland Parents/Guardians,

I hope you are faring well through these unusual times.  Aside from a place to learn, school is a place of community and connection.   The team of educators at Parkland are committed to maintaining our very special community and providing many options for connection (albeit virtually) for the foreseeable future.  I will be posting updates at least once a week on the school website.

By now you (or your son/daughter) should have received initial communication from each of their teachers.  Online learning will be beginning this coming week and should be in place by the latest mid April. You can expect approximately 3 hours of school work per course per week.  If your son/daughter has barriers to their learning, please email me and I will do my best to address the issue.

Please email me directly if your son/daughter requires a device at home to do their work and does not have one (lchicanot@saanichschools.ca).  If access to wifi is an issue both Telus and Shaw have special offers available.

Telus info:

Shaw info:

Please make sure that your children are checking their school emails and their google classrooms.  For most teachers this will be the way that they communicate with their students.

Social/emotional contact available for students.  Counselling appointments are still possible via telephone or video conferencing.  Please see the billboard on the website for a list of contact emails.

Students who want to access items from their lockers will be given access according to the following schedule:

Monday April 6th: 9:30-11:30 GRADE 12s

Monday April 6th: 11:30-1:30 GRADE 11s

Tuesday April 7th: 9:30-11:30 GRADE 10s

Tuesday April 7th: 11:30-1:30  GRADE 9s

Students should go to the front entrance of the school and line up (6 feet apart) and wait to be taken to their locker.  Lockers will be disinfected between each student visit.

Some helpful websites to access resources are the following:

Saanich Learns https://learn.saanichschools.ca/?redirect=0.

Open School BC https://www.openschool.bc.ca/keeplearning/#page-top.

Please remember to check the district website for updates from our Superintendent https://www.sd63.bc.ca/COVID-19

Starting next week rather than emailing you I will posting weekly updates to our school website (usually Monday morning).  I appreciate that as parents/guardians this is not an easy new reality to navigate and the staff at Parkland would like to help as much as possible.  Please check the school website regularly and email me directly with any questions, concerns, ideas.

Thank you for your patience and your ongoing commitment to your children’s education.
