Friday, January 14, 2022 ~ Happy New Year!

Are you interested in learning more about the IB program at Parkland?   Please attend our IB Information Night (Virtual) on January 19th at 7:00pm.  Did you know that you can take only one IB class if you want to?   Do you know how being an IB student can benefit your university experience?   Come to the info session with all your questions and find out more!  Join the meeting.  Meeting ID: 812 7858 3609  Passcode: k0Gwui

Classes have resumed with enhanced safety measures in place. We will continue to reinforce the existing safety measures such as masks, daily health checks, hand hygiene, and keeping your distance.  In addition. we have implemented new measures in order to reduce crowding in the hallways.  These measures include designated classroom entrance and exit doors where possible, staggering our class dismissal times, and distancing the cafeteria line extending it right through the front foyer.  We have also added cones, arrows and signs to reinforce the need for students and staff to walk on the right side of the hallway.  Students and staff will have to wear their masks at all times except when they are in a stationary position eating or drinking.  We want to avoid anyone walking the halls and eating or drinking. We are doing everything we can to keep everyone at Parkland safe and we hope everyone stays healthy.  If your student is going to be away, please either call the absence line - 250-655-2713 or email parklandattendance@saanichschools.ca to let us know if the absence is an illness or parent excused. Here is a letter from our Admin team.

Grade 9 immunization forms were distributed today, please complete them and return to the office next week. Thank you!

Assessment week is coming up soon, check out the Assessment Week schedule for January 24-28. If students need to write their Numeracy or Literacy Assessment, please see Mr. Earnshaw this week.

Musical Theatre students have been busy rehearsing for our production of Cinderella, and we have had a setback with the latest provincial health orders and restrictions. We are now selling a limited number of tickets with the hope that we are allowed to perform in our theatre. Tickets are available through the Parkland box office and are $18.00 each. You can call 250-655-2736 to reserve with a credit card, or send money with your student. Per the health orders, we are currently not allowed to have an audience but this may change on January 31 when Dr. Bonnie Henry reassesses the situation.
Our show run was scheduled to begin Wednesday, February 2 and continue through to Saturday, February 5. With careful consideration, we have decided to reduce the amount of performances and eliminate the two live Saturday shows. With safety in mind, we are planning to offer an online viewing option (most likely live-streaming if our cast remains healthy) regardless of the provincial mandates so we can share our hard work with our community. We are optimistic, but realistic. The link for the online option will be available for purchase via our website for the exact dates and times of the shows. We will be able to provide the information for online ticket sales after January 24, 2022 which will give us enough time to develop our plan.
In the event that the live shows are cancelled, you will have the option to have your ticket purchase refunded, or you can donate the cost of the ticket to our program to help us pay for the rights and royalties of this show. Obviously, this is difficult news to relay and we are hopeful for the opportunity to perform for our friends and families, but it is out of our hands at this time.
