Tuesday, April 26, 2022 ~ Literacy / Numeracy Assessment Week

A big congratulations to all the Parkland Pant'ers who ran the TC 10K this Sunday. A special congrats to Kotomi Shimamura and Marie Meyer-Piton for representing officially representing Parkland students on our team. Marie won the U19 Female category in a time of 41:40!!! Jules Meiners was 8th in that category too! 
If any students are interested in completing their PADI Open Water Dive course this May, please come see Ms. Dibblee in the PE office at lunch TODAY. There are 2 spots left that we'd like to fill. 

School Bus registration is now open for the 2022/23 School Year. Registration open until June 15.

Report Cards went home last week. Parent/Teacher in person interviews are this Thursday, April 28 5:00-7:00 pm by appointment only. Call Ms. Gribling at 250-655-2700 to book.

Parkland is starting its first ever BIPOC Club. The BIPOC club aims to empower and provide resources for all students of colour at Parkland Secondary School. For more information check out the poster on the Learning Commons door or talk to Myelle.

Ministry of Education Survey - The Student Learning Survey (SLS) has been administered every year in B.C. public schools since 2001. Prior to 2016-17 it was known as the Student Satisfaction Survey. The SLS provides feedback on the implementation of the curriculum changes, learning environment, student wellness and satisfaction, student belonging and engagement, and career preparation. The parent and guardian/caregiver survey is now available online and is available in 18 different languages.

Youth Health Clinic is every Thursday night 5:30-7:30 @ Shoreline Medical Clinic.

The PAC Breakfast Program will be Thursday's and Friday's 7:45-8:20.  Baked goods and juice boxes available.  .25 cents per item.

KidSport Greater Victoria is a local organization that exists to help families in need access organized sport opportunities for their children. To be eligible for up to $600 per year in registration fee support, children must be 18 years or under, families must be within financial eligibility limits, and season must be at least 8 weeks long with an eligible sport organization.  For more information, a list of eligible local sport organizations, and to apply, visit www.kidsportvictoria.ca.

Summer Carpentry Apprenticeships - Are you in grade 11 or 12!  Want to work in the Carpentry Trade?  The BC Carpenters Union is hiring grade 11 and 12 student to work at apprentices this summer!! Youth employment is the future. Our mission is to provide high school students with the opportunity to get experience in the construction industry working hands on as material handlers for our reputable contractors. Tools are provided for our Plan A members as well as safety equipment. They gain experience, safety certifications and training, high school credits for graduation, eligibility for grants, and the ability to find a passion for a new career path. Paid is $19 per hour. WorkBC is hosting our first In-Person Job Fair for youth in over two years! Please see the attached poster for more details. WORK 4 (YOU)th (Ages 15 to 30) – masks required for everyone’s safety.  Thursday, May 12th, from 3 - 6 pm at WorkBC Centre at 201-1483 Douglas Street.

DUAL CREDIT - Fabulous Dual Credit COURSE opportunity for students interested in in careers in Nursing, Mental Health and Addiction Counselling, Early Learning Care, and Community, Family and Child Studies. ELC 130-Early Childhood Profession Health 111- Indigenous Peoples Health.  Both of these courses will be offered on Friday after school, Sept 9-Dec 9,  3:30-6:30 at Camosun and they are FREE...we even cover the textbooks! Community Support and Educational Assistant Dual Credit Career Program in Partnership with VIU Starts February 2023 If you are in grade 11, and are thinking of a career in Education or Community Support this is the program for YOU!!  You could be a certified EA by August 2023!

The Sidney BIA has partnered with Beacon Community Services to present the Sidney Employment Expo, in-person on May 19th, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Mary Winspear Centre.  This free event is a great opportunity for grade 11 and 12 students interested in getting a job.
