Parkland students have been travelling to Bamfield for almost 20 years and this year the trip in March included
students from the South Island Distance Education School. The Bamfield Marine Research Station is
operated in cooperation with local universities and has been offering a Public Education program to
schools for many years. Students travelled a local river in a herring skiff to perform plankton tows, visited
local sandy beaches and rocky beaches to do intertidal surveys, worked in a university level biology lab
and participated in a sea dredge aboard the research vessel the MV Alta.
