Thank you to all the staff and students who made the first week of school a great success!  Everyone is keen and excited to be starting a new year. After a graduated start this week, we are fully up and running.  Boys soccer, girls volleyball, and rowing have begun.  Next week Sailing, Yoga, Leadership, Journalism, Intramurals, and Band will commence.
On Tuesday the entire grade 9 class will be going on a field trip to Victoria to participate in the SOAR program that helps facilitate a positive transition to high school (don't forget your permission forms grade 9s!). We are pleased to welcome our new international students to Parkland--it is a particularly exciting time for them.
Parents please mark your calendars-Thursday September 17th is Meet the Teacher evening (5:30-7:30).  We hope to meet you all at that time.

I'm sorry to have to end on a sad note.  One of our beloved Parkland students passed away from cancer days before she would have started her grade 12 year.  Elise Schoenrank fought a six year long battle with cancer.  There were times when we thought it was beat but sadly she succumbed in the end.  She passed away peacefully at the VGH surrounded by her family and close friends.  Over the next week we will be working with the family to find ways to acknowledge and celebrate a beautiful life lived but one that was tragically cut short.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.
