*** FUWSE - ASSOCIATION FOR FUTURE WOMEN SCIENTISTS AND ENGINEERS - presentation Monday October 21, @ lunch, 11:30 to 12:30, by the blue tables.  FUWSE encourages students to become interested in STEM by bringing role models to schools. Come and explore future science and engineering education and careers for women - mentoring from role models; self-organization and self-motivation; inspiration from role models; gender equality. ***HONOUR ROLL: Certificates are now available at the front office for all students who are on the Honour Roll. You can check our names on the posted list in the front foyer. If you think you should be on the Honour Roll, but don't see you name on the list, please see Ms. Chicanot. Congratulations, everyone! Don't forget to check the criteria for the honour roll on the school website. There are now two ways to get on the honour roll.


***CONGRATULATIONS to the 6 members of the Parkland Swim Team who competed at the Vancouver Island School Swim Meet on Sunday. They swam alongside athletes from 32 schools! Everyone worked very hard, and represented Parkland wonderfully with their effort and good sportsmanship. Four of our swimmers have advanced to Provincials in Novembers: Taise Bryce, ErikRankin, Nele Schiefer, and Emilia Coccia. Well done!


***CONGRATS to the 3 junior members of the Parkland Cross Country team whoall pleased in the top ten in their last league race last Thursday. Manuel Muff was 5th, Quinn Stancill was 7th, and Anna Eigler was 9th. Amazing!


*** EUROPE TRIP 2020 MEETING: Lunch time meetings resume Monday October 21, and are a regular check-in time for those of you already signed up for the trip. Come and ask questions, learn travel tips and get excited!


***JUNIOR BOYS BASKETBALL TRY-OUTS : We will have our first try-out at lunch on Wednesday October 23.


***JUNIOR GIRLS BASKETBALL TRY-OUTS: Wednesday October 23 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

FORESTRY NURSERY WORKERS: ARBUTUS GROVE NURSERY - new job - Monday to Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. schedule. Seasonal; start November 2019 to February 2020; some Saturdays. Starting @ $13.85 per hour with incremental increases.

***HIGH TECH U is for students interested in COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING. Develop a network with like-minded peers from all over Vancouver Island, explore technology and how it can be used positively to impact our world. This year, SD 63 students can apply for the Skills Academy and AUDIT the Dual Credit Course at UVIC! See Ms. MsNamee for details. Jaden W from Parkland did the High Tech U Academy, and is an excellent ambassador for the program!


***INTERESTED IN BECOMING A FIRST RESPONDER? JDF FIRE / RESCUE CADET CAMP takes place spring break, March 16 to 21, 2020 - Metchosin. Basic elements of firefighting, search and rescue, medical response, and technical rescue. Strong emphasis on team work, physical fitness, and community service. Applications must be submitted by: December 18, 2019. See Ms. McNamee ASAP!


STAC: SKILLS TRAINING APPRENTICESHIP CARPENTRY and TEX: TRADE SAMPLER PROGRAM - two new programs to explore trades; through SD63 District  - starting February 2020. See Ms. McNamee for details on making an application!


FOOD SAFE LEVEL ONE: FRIDAY October 25th, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - $50 - useful certification for anyone working in the food service, food retails, or food processing industries. Learn how to handle food safely. Sign up early - this course usually fills up!


ALERT FIRST AID WITH CPR AND AED: FRIDAY November 22; from 8:30 to 4 p,m.; fun and interactive course give training in reacting and improvising time priority, lie threatening emergencies. Covers all aspects of first aid. Sign up early - this course fills fast!
