Certification

Parkland Marine Students have the opportunity to earn their Pleasure Craft Operator Cards. All operators of recreational powerboats in Canada now require a Pleasure Craft Operator Card*, commonly known as a Canadian Boating License. Obtaining an Operator Card is also the best way to gain the knowledge you need to boat with confidence! An Operator Card is required for all ages, boat sizes and waterways in Canada when operating a motorized vessel. If you operate a powered recreational boat you need an Operator Card* - It's the law.Once obtained, the official Card is good for life.

In Marine Science 9 students are introduced to SCUBA diving in a confined water environment through a single Discover Diving workshop with Rockfish Divers. In Marine Science 10, the class is offered the chance to complete their Open Water certification through Rockfish Divers. This is a PADI certification that lasts a lifetime, and is internationally recognized. Alongside the Marine Science 11 course, depending on previous diving experience, students will have the chance to earn their Advanced Open Water certification which is the first step towards becoming a Master Diver. Finally in Marine Science 12, depending on previous diving experience, students will be in a position to complete dives and coursework that would earn them a Rescue Diver certification or a Scientific Diver certification. The Scientific Diver is a recognized certification by the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre. To be certified you must be 19, however you may still take the course and do the necessary dives before you are 19.
